So I just spent basically 5 grand on a modded out 07' Raptor GYTR Edition from a local dealer that normally doesn't carry Yamaha's.
This Raptor is modded out, I do not have a complete listing but it has the Alba racing package (Exhaust, Fuel management system, Velocity intake setup) and at the dealer is started fine, ripped awesome. I picked it up early this afternoon and it started up fine and pulled onto the truck fine.
The service man there said that Raptor 700's, especially this one to not use any throttle to start it. He said you must let it idle and warm up for a solid 5 minutes before taking off. I gave it a little gas and got it to fire up, it back fired a few times then it shut off.
I get home and get it off the truck, go to start it and it just turns, every now and then would pop to start up but wouldn't. I call the dealers service mechanic and talk to him, he said to try half throttle start up, if it starts shut it off and do a closed throttle start. If it doesn't start up, it probably fouled the spark plug and would need a new one. Well, I pulled the spark plug and cleaned it and blew air on it for a bit to dry it well. Still wouldn't fire up.
He said I should load it up tomorrow morning and bring it back over and they will take a look at it.
This is the first quad I have purchased and I went this route because I only get a few days off for work and don't have time to be spending always working on the damn thing. I let a trike pass by because I didn't have the time and care for it that it needed.
Needless to say I am freaking pissed. There was no option for a warranty on it, but does anyone know if the 3 business day lemon law deal with cars is applicable to quads from a dealer?
Any suggestions, tips, info? Anything would be appreciated, hopefully fast.
Thanks.

:welcome: to THREE WHEELER WORLD.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck... I would think you'd have no problems takin it back to the shop. They shouldn't even charge you IMO :TrikesOwn
at least that's what I would think... if you didn't even ride the darn thing!

I used to be a member here back in the day probably 5 years ago atleast, I don't even remember my old username. I used to be a member at 3wheeler.org also, I don't even know if that site is still up. I am always a lurker on here, but figured it was time to register and this was the best place to come for help. I can't go to paatv, the site must have shut down.
I won't be paying taking it back to the shop, I can guarantee you that. If they even try to charge me someone is getting smacked.
I spent the last 2 days waiting to ride it, pick it up and bring it home and this happens. I didn't even get to get it out of gear.
If it is going to be this much of a pain, I will force them to take it back and give me a refund. I could have spent a $100-300 more and got a brand new 08' left over from another local dealer with a warranty on it. Granted it was all stock and not the GYTR edition, I should have taken that deal.
I am so pissed it's not even funny.

Got it figured out at the dealer today. It was running really rich, evidently somebody messed with the fuel management chip and did it wrong. It fouled the spark plug. They did a bunch of fine tuning and tweaking, minor adjustments.
This thing runs like a raped ape. The power on this thing is ungodly. I have yet to get it past 1/4-1/2 throttle in 4th. I had my cousin follow me with his 09' king quad with the speedometer and he was doing 53 and I was pulling away from him.
I can't believe how the 700r is compared to the 660r. The 660's front end was a little lighter, perhaps it was more rear biased. This thing has more power than the 660 but suprisingly the front end isn't sky happy at all really.
It's handling is unlike any quad I have ridden. Turning is a dream, just give a little turn, brap the throttle, throws the rear out and you rail every turn with ease.
So far a good $4900.

Glad they got it dialed for you. I'd be steaming too.
Those Raptors are strong, loads of torque. Cushy seat and reverse too! What more could you want? :D

I didn't get here in time to help, glad you got it running better. I agree the Raptor 700 is a big time power machine. Once you get the fuel controller set you can just forget about it. Check the plug color as if it had a carb as an indication of the fuel controller being dialed in perfectly. Or if the dealer had a dyno and did dyno runs with an air/fuel meter to dial in your fuel then forget what I said about the plug.
What is the suspenssion setup on your Raptor? What type of riding are you doing with it? Reason I ask is because GT Thunder makes a new lower rear shock link that drops the rearend about 3/4 inch. The tall center of gravity is the one downfall of the Raptor if you try to race it or keep up with the more nimble 450s in the woods. I don't have a problem on straight sections, my Raptor eats up all quads except modded Renagades.
Have fun and keep us posted on your Raptor.

Dats the one!!!! I was telling a friend of mine how a Renegade ate my Banshee up on a 300' drag!!! Needless to say that he ragged the ELL outa me. I had to hear how he was so superior cause he is a semi-pro CC racer and that it could never happen to him. A quad would never beat his KTM 500 in a drag race. A few weeks later he was ate up on his KTM 500 by a renegade. Then I had to hear that his bike wasn't running right! What a Chump!!!

Syko, dude, in our first race of the season there were several long straights as part of the 8.5 mile race course. My big 700 could leave or run down everything close, and as the race went on I got kinda cocky about letting the 700 run people down. Got sloppy in the woods cause I knew I could hold them off on the straights. Well the race was about over and about half way through a quarter mile straight run and Renegade went by me from out of freaking nowhere. Blew my doors off so bad I nearly crapped myself, didn't see or hear him coming at all. Sounded like a small block Chevy when it went by. Those things are no joke, I'm pushing about 51 hp with my Raptor too.

I've heard big numbers like that. There are 3 different ones that race off and on with us. I don't know how modded they are, I do know they are piped and those things just flat tear it up like nothing else. Apperently they aren't that hard to make go fast either, especcially for a big, heavy quad. Those guys don't appear to be working that hard on the race track. I think the huge power, 4 wheel drive and CVT are a killer combination for going fast in the woods. I'd say if you can run with a Renegade in the woods on a 450 or anything else for that matter, then your quad is a bad-azz-mother and you ain't no slouch either.
I did a race down here that a modded brute force was in as well... he had a loud ass horn on it and you knew it when he was behind you... I saw him run over trees to get past people! he just kept it pegged out!

I like it, How do those tires work for ya? Do they slide very well? Are those really ishocks? They look like they might be ishock revalves, IDK?
Nice quad, you shouldn't have any trouble hangin' tough with anything out their.

The offset of those front rims are sketchy looking for sure! I'd buy a set of stock front rims before you jam your wrist.

Wow, you are correct, I didn't catch that. Those must be rear rims for a Polaris, you'll definately want to get some stock front wheels. Ebay has them all the time for a good price.

Modded raptors rip. My outlaw 525s would smoke stock raptors but i raced one bored out (not sure what to) with the alba stuff on it and all that.. ripped me apart. Not just that, but they have efi and there pretty reliable. Great bikes, if i had it over again id buy one.

Thanks for the posts fellas.
Everything that is on there came on it. The dealer didn't have a list really of what was on it, this is just what I have come to find out.
The front is wider than the rear, the mudlites work well, slide real nice, the traction on the get up and go is really nice too.
My buddy I work with said he had a similar pair on his 450r and after a while they put a real bad hurting on his bearings. He said it destroyed them pretty good. He now has Razrs on it and said they hook up almost as good and are much easier on the bearings.
I couldn't tell you about the shocks or anything like that outside of the stickers on them, I'm not too good about mods and things like that at this point. Most things I have ever owned have been pretty much close to stock.
If there are any details or pictures I could help you with to help me figure some things out, just say the word and I will be glad to help.
