I'm working on this cylinder for Louis Mielke. We're moving the waterneck on this 85-87 styled CR500 cylinder over to the side above the exhaust port like what is common on the later model 89+ so that the decompression setup can go in the old water outlet above the intake in the back of the cylinder. I've got all the weld added on that I need. I'll Machine it off flat, drill a hole into the water jackets so that it can flow, followed by 2 more small holes that will be tapped so that the waterneck can bolt on in place. And everything else will be nice and blended in. It'll look like part of the original casting :) No more issues with the press fit elbows that sometimes get loose and cause you to lose coolant :naughty:

i do not understand why you all have so much trouble starting the 500. my topend is new and in awesome shape. i can start it in 1 kick hot and about 3 cold and i am nearly a midget!!!

as always nice work when its done I say the whole engine needs to be polished since you already ground off half of it

I bet you need to take your fenders off to start yours though.

I use a banshee kicker to clear my rear fenders. No removal of the fenders necessary. Let's see you start your 500 in the heat of battle on the motorcross track after you get knocked off the track or stall it in a hairy situation.

.

Now i understand why you are doing that. the little kicker would be tough

I would really read up on the cons of the decompression set up before i ruined a good cylinder. on cr500riders i have read way more bad then good. I am sure you are alo aware of the pipe to hose problems when you put a newer cylinder on the early bottom end.

no i dont remove my fenders and i use a modified cr250 kicker  i can start the beast and never get off.

I've been running the decompress for about 3 years now man with no problems. The cylinder I'm currently running is on the last bore. I haven't had any performance issues. I'm also on CR500riders and other than most people not getting it to work right I haven't really read about any literal "cons" per say.

The only cons I've found with it is that the guy that installed it did a crappy job of relocating the water spigot. Hence why billy is building this cylinder up for me and installing a newer style spigot. This is gonna be my spare cylinder once i get the decompress setup in it. I figure I got another year on my current cylinder before it needs plated or sleeved.
