Another problem with one of my machines...I was riding normal and all of a sudden the gear stared clicking then it stalled. Its starts when i hold the clutch but not when im in neutral...It also only shifts into the first 2-3 gears. Right when i was going to trade a guy it!

dude you need to save up and buy a NEW machine with an EXTENDED EXTENDED warranty!

cant help you with the blaster but it sounds like one of the shift forks went adios!

blasters you have to split the cases to deal with the gears....

i dont even know what that means so i guess im screwed...this is great right before im selling/trading it too:rolleyes:

Split the cases means you take the top end off, and then you take the clutch cover and stator cover off. You're left with the transmission/case assembly. Syko is saying you have to split this in half. Not a fun job.

Does the Blaster bottom end split top and bottom like the Banshee? I'm not familiar with Yamahas or 2-strokes lol. I was describing what it would be for a 4-stroke.

should i just try changing the gear oil before i tear it down? It still Does shift into 1st and neutral so im thinking MAYBE(I HHOPE) its not completely screwed. Would this help or would it just be a waste of oil?

SYKO

Here's a thread with a post to a older blaster manual, not sure if that will help.

It COULD be in the gear case, but it could also be the parts that turn the shift drum and hold it in the gear you select. Take off the right side cover 1st and make sure nothing came loose or broke in the shift mechanism.

If you don't have the shop manual, get one and read/look at all the pictures of the mechanisms and then you may feel a bit more comfortable taking it apart.

Far too many people sell machines due to shifting problems and many times it's a loose bolt, worn pawl or broken spring etc etc etc..... :D

ok first of fthe motor splits down the center verticaly not horizonaly liek scott simmerman says!!! and second to check the rachet mechinisim and shift star/ drum assembely. you can leave it in the frame but if the torx head screw on the shift drum that holds the shift star on works loose you will chip the shift drum and it willonly shift 1-3 i have had this happen on 4 diffrent blasters trough the years. easy way to check is pull clutch cover and remove clut assembely basket and all . then your shift shaft will slid eout and alow you to swing the shift rachet out of the way and check for any sort of play . do not attempt to repair if the drum is chiped it will not work i have tried jb welt , locktite and even weldign and not had many good results.

A similar incident happened to me years ago. I was cruising along in 6th gear and it locked up tight. I had to tear it down and found fourth, fifth, and sixth gears were broken. Had to replace all three gears.
