well a 500 twin is overweight think abotu a moden 450 thumper or a 500 2 stroke like a kx or cr 500 is a good start also.

Well the theory always was that a 500 2 cylinder was quicker than a 500 single. That is why they had v-12 jaguars and such, less rotating mass equaled faster revving. Or at least that's how the theory was supposed to go.

well, honda has a CX500 twin, but those old 500's only have around 50 horse.....if you want twin cylinder, go for snowmobile 2 stroke, otherwise, a CR500 ir KX500 would be your best friend.

Good luck finding a transmission to hold up to that motor.......its amazing, 60 horse cylinders, when combined into one rotating mass more than triples the power output.

I think allot of people overlook the added weight of some of these conversions. Unfortunately, most of them are done very poorly and are nearly useless for anything but dragging.

The CR500 and all these newer performance thumper motors are the way to go IMHO. I think some guys just see an old CB streetbike motor, a broken trike and and just start cutting and welding :lol:

If you want a fun and functional MONSTER trike, just do your homework and take your time......

Kawasaki has a Ninja 500 I think it's a parallel(inline) twin. Another good would would be a Ninja 650R engine, parallel(inline) twin, 72 BHP, 45ftlbs? I think torque, torque comes on real low rpm also...and it's watercooled and more compact than the 500.

Why stop at a twin. Kasasaki made a 500 2 stroke triple and even a 750 2 stroke triple. If your going, go big!

you could build a tri z ,and put in a sweet banshee motor, or rz 350
or a oold 400 500 750 ect... tripple in a trike, they were air cooled and have fast transmissions

Its the only pic i could find in my photobucket album of the the cb500t in my garage. Only made for 2 years and werent a big seller in the us. Kind of a rare bike in this shape. The thing is slow, heavy, and doesnt like corners, basically only gets used for a relaxing trip round town. The katana is even more uncomfortable.

i have a yz 490 motor that i would sell to you it needs a little work to be perfect. it is bored to a 503 and ported but it needs a kicker lever and gear and needs to be tuned but otherwise its perfect. It would be a step agead of other 500 2 strokes. Fresh top end with a wiseco piston and rings. I also have brand new chain that you could have with it. let me know your best offer shipped from 57105 and maybe we could work something out.
