after 2 weeks of off and on sanding i got to buff my new to me upper intake for my mustang.

i started with 80 grit and ended with 400 grit and i used WD-40 as lube. then today i threw a 10'' spiral buffing wheel on my 1 hp bench grinder and went to it.

i didnt go crazy in the areas you cant see when it's on the car (4th pic) this is the first intake i polished and i think it turned out good.

looks good! what kind is that? I color matched everything on my ladies stang I think it looks good like that the only part I polished was the HO 5.0 cover

its a 5.0 explorer intake

they are about the same as a cobra or the old GT-40 intake.

the lowers on a 3 are the same and the uppers are vary a pinch in flow but this is the way to go on a mild motor.

Very nice. If the car runs like the parts look it should be really hot. Any trike part polishing? How many different steps does it take to polish a part to that level of shine?

quite a few steps, 80-320 gritt or so then you fire up the buffer and throw on some sun glasses....lol

looks real good man.....polishing can get addicting at times tho, you start seeing other little parts to do each time you look, all of which are 100% worth it when they come together

i finaly got to throw that intake on this weekend, went pretty well and i think it turned out great.

the last pic is the stainless allen bolts i picked up for the upper. i turned the bottom of the heads down on my lathe so they would sit lower and then i made thick washers out of stainless, turned a taper on them and counter sunk the heads into the washer.

Wayne, that is really nice. Excellent work. Maybe next time I come up you can bring it over. Speaking of that, looks like I'm looking to be up in 2 more weekends. Not sure which day, hopefully Saturday. Mark your calender, hope to see you when I come up.

thanks man, i'll bring it over but lately my weekends are filled with my dad building his house.

this was my first free weekend in months, so i turned on the air conditioner in the garage and stayed out there all weekend....lol
