  • OTC Race Series Round #1 - Summit Indoor

As the New Year has just begun, so has the 2010 Race Series for the OTC. Although OTC is an acronym for Ohio Trike Crew, it is not some Ohio based club for "members only". The OTC has become standard protocol for a 3 wheeler racing circuit that just happens to have its events take place in Ohio. The OTC has gained the attention of many race promoters in the Ohio area as being an unsanctioned, un-scored, exhibition class that the fans just happen to love watching. The safety and sportsmanship shown by all OTC riders is what keeps the promoters inviting them back for more action packed racing. They race for fun and keep their racing clean.

The January race was held at the Summit County Fairgrounds located in Tallmadge, Ohio http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Ta...eocode=ADDRESS. Motorcross bikes and quads also raced there.

Racers in attendance for the January Race were Tim Sr, Tim Jr, Kiser, and Carl, all from Ohio. 2 New Jersey residents - Side Wayz and Leviblue. And Eric Jensen of Indiana.

The track layout this year was a little more aggressive than normal. The track layout was as follows: Off the gate into a long straight away, left turn into a small jump, left turn into a 6 pack rhythm section, left turn into a step-up jump with a table top landing, straight into a whoops section, right turn to a HUGE triple, left turn back onto the first straight away. The racers mounted and readied their bikes for the start of the Main Event. As the gate dropped, Carl took the holeshot with Eric Jensen wheeling not too far behind. At turn one Kiser was in third and Tim Jr and Leviblue hot on his tail. Tim Sr reached turn one in 6th place but made an inside pass for a position change to 3rd. By the beginning of Lap 2 the Tecate, piloted by Carl, and the TPC 450, with Jensen on it, were starting to pull away from a tight grouped pack. Tim Sr remained in 3rd place at the beginning of lap 2.

Lap 2 kept the same order of racers with Tim Jr and Side Wayz really doing some very close battle the entire lap. Coming out of the last turn and on to the straight away for Lap 3 Tim Sr's bike unexpectedly caught grip while power-sliding. The Bike stood up on the right rear tire and looped Tim Sr off his bike. This then put Kiser in 3rd, Tim Jr in 4th closely followed by Side Wayz and Leviblue. By Lap 4, Carl and Jensen were still ahead of the pack, with Kiser not too far back on his 350X. Tim Jr kept his 4th place position on his 85 250R while Leviblue and Sideways continued their battle in 5th and 6th on their ATC250rs. By this time Tim Sr had gotten back on his bike and was again rounding the track. The next lap got very exciting as Carl came off the double jump (triple) out of shape but managed to re-gain control while keeping his 1st place spot. This tightened things up for the leaders. Entering the rhythm section Carl mustered up the courage to double into the 6-pack. This gave him a bit of breathing room, but not for long. Coming into the final lap Jensen had tighten things back up out front. Entering the 6-pack section for the final time and the checkered flag, Carl again doubled in, with Jensen following suit this time. At the checkered flag not a bike length separated 1st and second place. Jesen got way out of shape from entering the rhythm section doing a double, but held on without incident. It was a wild enough ride for the flag man to do the sign of the cross on his chest after watching it. Kiser finished a safe 3rd place with Tim Jr not too far behind finishing in 4th followed by Leviblue in 5th, Side Wayz on his air-cooled R in 6th and Tim Sr rounded out the race in 7th place on his Tri-Z.

Congratulations to all racers as this was a really exciting race to watch. The crowd loved it and with out turnout of spectators in the thousands it kept everyone on their toes.
