  • ATC200, ATC200M and ATC200S Technical Data

Often exclaimed Honda's most popular and widest spread unit in their early ATV line, the ATC200 models are the bread and butter on the ATC heritage. Just about anyone who thinks of a three wheeler has the vision of the ATC200 come to his mind. As follows are the distinct specifications that separated the three main model designations of ATC200, ATC200S and ATC200M.

Honda release several variants of the base ATC200 line excluding the "Big Red" line introduced around the same time. The ATC200 was the result of the natural evolution of the ATC185. A small bump in displacement coupled with the standard creature comfort upgrades provided a steady stream of updated models keeping the ATC line fresh and new without any large changes in the overall design.

Most notable of these variations came in the form of the introduction of hydraulic telescoping forks on the usually suspension-less ATC models. Possibly following in Yamaha's footsteps, the front suspension helped greatly to ease the handling of the non-sport model ATCs. Also worth mentioning is the electric start capability of the ATC200M, possibly a careyover from the "Big Red" version of the ATC200 model.

Hey guys! I have what I thought was a 1982 ATC200. It has a round headlight (did they do that ever?) and the odd thing is when I run the vin it says it is a 1980 model. Didn't think they came out that early. Anyone have any thoughts/wisdom on this?

So I just resurrected a 200S from the dead. It is a 1984, runs great now but it shifts backwards??? Meaning all gears are down from N thru 5. The 1986 model I had when I was young as all up from neutral. Is this correct or is something assembled wrong inside the clutch side to make it behave this way. Does anyone know if these shipped from factory with the down shift pattern?

85 and up are up shift , Honda changed to up shift for child safety reasons .
A young child can shift a transmission easier pushing down .
