  • REVIEW: New eBay "Keihin" 200x carb

I was having trouble with my stock 200x carb even though it was all cleaned up, jets were clear, etc. I could never get my trike to idle right. Sometimes it would rev up really high, so I would turn the idle down and then it would die. I spent many hours trying to get it to idle right, and finally had enough and figured I would try one of the new eBay carbs.

I ended up buying from this seller for $33 shipped to me. He has carbs for other Honda trikes as well: ZOOM ZOOM PARTZ. So for about $10 more than a rebuild kit you have a whole new carb. It looks alot like the oem Keihin carb and even says Keihin on it, but I doubt it is a real Keihin. It is advertised for 83-87 200x as many things on eBay are, but I doubt you could bolt it up to a second gen and have it work out of the box.

I set the air screw to factory settings, and didn't touch anything else. I bolted it onto my 84, gave a few kicks, and it started right up and idled perfectly! I couldn't believe it. So I took it for a spin, thinking to myself yeah it idles great but how will it do actually riding. To my surprise, it runs great all through the rpm range! I couldn't be happier with this new carb. The only issue I have found with it, and I believe others have seen this with eBay carbs, is at idle if you stab the throttle really quick, you will get a bog. I was worried this would cause issues during actual riding but I never had it happen then.

Now onto the disclaimers. My 200x is bone stock besides a rebuilt top end with .5mm over-sized Wiseco piston. I can see what others have said about re-jetting this carb for mods being a problem since there are no numbers on the jets! Just for grins I checked to see if the stock 200x oem Keihin jets screw into this carb and they do, so I guess you could get it to work with mods, but it would be hard to get a baseline.

Note thanks to UI Vandal: There are 'C' and 'L' versions of most of the carbs. C means cable-driven choke, and L means lever choke. I didn't realize there were 2 versions when buying mine, so I bought the cable-driven choke version for my 200x even though the 200x never had this. I was able to swap over my lever choke from my stock carb, but it still works fine even with the cable-driven choke.

    Here's a couple pics:

Comparison of eBay carb on left and oem carb on right

Says Keihin on it, but is it really?

    Any questions, fire away.

I bought a carb for my 200X from them, http://stores.ebay.com/ZOOM-ZOOM-PARTZ.
Bike runs great with a very smooth idle now! I did use the float bowl off of my original carb, (to ease main jet change at diff. altitudes, plug in bottom). I also used the original choke lever, (it`s longer)

so, lol I put one of these carbs on my bike and I dont think they are as good as the honda carbs, my blow gasket was riped befor I even opened it and the float was Effed up and would over flue my bike and run out into the air intake. but if you could get the bike to run it would run and drive like a dream for about 10min. And then just die and would start back up for ather 10 min or so. i am going to get ather honda carb. but doesnt any one know why it would do this, the carb not the bike.

I was following this thread while researching my grandson's 200X. I purchased one of the $33 carbs hoping that that would end his no start, run a little, not run at all, type battle. He could get it running temporarily, but then it would die, never to start again. Many people have looked at it and given up. I had him bring it to me and sure enough, it will not start. It gets plenty of spark but I put a new plug in (and gapped it properly). I ran a compression test and came back with 110 lbs. Not very high, but should not be low enough to not start or run at all. I next changed the oil (that was filthy). Next I installed the $33 carb that seemed to be everything this thread said it was. Put it all back together and still no start. Tried push starting it and for a very small instant it would seem to fire but then a huge backfire out the exhaust pipe. Back to the rack where I adjusted the valves (to the best of my limited ability) and tried again. Same thing, nothing when kick starting it, but when I pursh start it, a small "attempt to fire" and then a very loud back fire out the exhaust. Anybody out there have any ideas? Please help, my grandson is in withdrawals from not riding. Respond on this post or directly to my email nick@nickscomputerworks.com. Anybody knowlegeable living close to Barstow, CA??

I drove out and picked one up for my 200, the only issue was the cap didnt have the adjustment for the cable so i will need to swap caps.

Edit: after putting the carb on i found out it was to big and my atc200 would not run with it. i stole the bowl off and cleaned up my old carb and the trike runs great. but the carb is worthless to me.

I just bought an 83 200X and have been enduring the same issues. I spent $18.00 on a rebuild kit and if anything, it made things worse instead of better.

It doesn't want to start very easily, and when it does, it runs for a little bit and then dies off. I am thinking about trying one of the ebay specials to see what happens. Any other suggestions???

I am about to purchase one of these for my 1985 Honda ATC 200s. Does anyone have experience with these carbs specifically with the 85 200s?

      Thank you

I've only owned my 3 wheeler for 6 months and just signed up today - sorry if this is posted in wrong place.
Can anyone please explain how to reassemble the throttle assembly that goes into the carb on a 1985 200s?
I cleaned the carb and that went fine but the throttle assembly fell apart and I can't figure out how it all goes back together.
There is the cable, the cylinder, the pin (has the clip attached to 3rd notch), and a small U clip w/ bent ends.
      Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is a new "KEIHIN" carb out there for the 1986-87 200X?

Doesn't exist. Your best bet is to get a 24mm oem and rebuild it or you can call sudco and see if they have any 27mm left.
