So I bought this 83 atc 250r and the guy says he was in the middle of a restoration and engine rebuild but never ended up finishing he gave me everything with it the old bottom end bearings the frame is all powder coated he said it just needed the new piston in which he gave me but I took the head off and there is a bit of rust in the cylinder and the head seems to be damaged I want to use the new wiseco piston so I don’t want to get it honed and have to get a bigger piston what would you guys do. Do I get it re sleaved. there is a bit of damage inside of we’re the cylinder sits right we’re the crank comes through I’ll add a picture to show.just trying to see how I should go about it I want to do everything right and finish the restoration.

I think it would be cheaper to get an oversized piston, and ebay the one you have rather than resleeve it. What size is the current bore and piston? Be careful I have come across many bikes where the cylinder was an overbore with a stock piston in it. Amazingly, it will run but not for long. If you do go with an oversized piston and need it bored let me know I do them for $40 plus return shipping. If you measured it with a bore gage you would find it is probably a few thousandths worn. i rarely see a used 2 stroke that isn't. You could slam it together as-is and either use a sheapo hone or just wet sand some rust out with a 320 wet/dry sandpaper and run it. It will run a lot better and last a lot longer if you oversize it. A used cylinder will have no wear at the top above where the rings get to. Can you see or feel an area of wear just below the top ring? Pictures would be helpful to see the damage you are talking about.
