Ok, after finally completing my First Tecate project-I went for another.I was lucky to see 1 on the board for sale in NJ and I jumped on it. I was lucky to get the ride in basically 1 piece, with many extras last week, but had no time till yesterday to start the CSI.
Ok, first off couple things I noticed right off the bat and for what it is worth I was told in full detail of the issues with the Tecate before it was purchased-the old owner was a really nice guy! First-the wire harness is not complete, the CDI was hanging, the drain plug leaking, side cover leaking, chain side cover has been repaired more them once, front wheel bearings wiped out, front end was not complete, no front brakes, improper exhaust,no radiator,no rad guard, front headset bearings bad, spacers missing for front wheel- and these are just with a quick look.

Got into the motor after that-took exhaust off, the carb is the wrong one for the motor and I have not a clue as too what exactly it is, looks like a older VM 34MM but I'll have to check into it-it is going to be replaced anyway.I started to try a compression test, but it would not hold compression-took a better look and the intake had been reapired poorly with BLACK RTV on the outer surface, after tearing it off I found the intake rotted beyond believe-it was leaking everywhere,so a leakdown test and compression check were not going to happen. Reeds looked bad as well, I noticed spacing in them after removal of the intake-piston looks to be brand new but I have a fresh top end here so I'll pull it apart anyway.Now-the gear shifter is welded to the shaft-dunno why but it but it is,so thats going to be a little of a pain in the arse to remove.I have a full gasket set for this motor, brand new crank.I also have a brand new 1 off billet manifold to install on the motor.

Some photos of the ride.I installed new front wheel bearings, radiator, rad guard, front caliper, front brake controls on it.Looks like the head was leaking around the studs see the pictures posted.

Broke into the motor today, got it down to just splitting the cases, but I having a hard time splitting them-bearing might be froze in there. My splitter tool is actually bending from the force, I am only doing it by hand though.I will need a new shifter lever, and shifter shaft as well.My shifter was welded to the shaft and I could not save it.If you have 1 please let me know.

Motor has some issues in it.Took the head off, and I noticed a small thin piece of metal on top of the piston, flipped the head over and you can see the damage. It appears to be a old piece of a ring that was missed when it was replaced(see the pictures) and the top of the piston has a mark on the edge of it from this debris. The jug bolts were hand tight, must have been leaking air massively for how long? The wirstpin bearing is shot, top of the rod has massive clearance issues, needs to be replaced.Piston is bad, fingernail test on the edges prove the scratches are way too deep. The piston has had no prepping it appears to me before install. 1 head stud is lower then the others, I am thinking it is not correct..Heres some pictures:

What options do I have for shift levers? I have a spare shaft, thats no biggie, but what options are there, KX 250-500? WHAT YEARS are compatable? Is there a universal shifter?

Did not find anything in that thread for gear shift levers.

Just got the cases split, took some time but they popped finally. Now, the rod has massive play on the bottom bearing, no discoloration from overheating but it failed the "rod test" I gave it.Also, after I got the crank out of the cases I cannot believe this, but it dropped out of my hands onto the floor, damaging the gear end of it! I can't believe it, but it happened.I will send the crank to my guy in MI, the flywheel and stator to "jeswinehart" for his new mods, and hit the internet for all new bottom end bearings.

Placed order with cheapcycleparts.com $387 BUCKS including a new gear shift which they say is still available. All new bearings, bushings and seal for the bottom end.I have a gasket kit for the engine already, but I like to have spares.I also have a spare side case as the chain side case is junk, too many repairs to it IMO.
