Toasted the clutch in my 85 and I want to buy an after market one. Just curious what you guys run and what you like and don't like.
I prefer stock OEM to be honest. I have also run EBC's as well with great results, they take a good beating for sure. Did you mic the plates, sure the springs aren't gone?
The plates look good (didn't mic them yet), pretty sure its the springs (they are different lenghts). The stock stuff still available from a Kawasaki dealer?
Yes, just got a set from cheapcycleparts.com but you can get aftermarket cheaper on Ebay for sure. I recently saw a set of EBC for really cheap.
My 84 has a Barnett clutch kit in it, with no problems (fibers and springs)
I got an EBC, or Barnett kit I believe and could only use half of it and the other half the original ones. Different width plates? I dont remember why but it just wasnt right. Or maybe the springs? Just do what these guys say. All I know is I have to look at all these new plates and springs once in a while when diggin in the Tecate Parts bin, and it reminds me of what a pain it was. Maybe I was going with the bigger KX 500 springs. I seem to remember a hotter setup guys were doing. Maybe elaborate on that setup in case he wants more strength? My Tecate ripps it up when it actually lets me ride her so whatever I did it was good.
O.k., since we're on the subject. It's o.k. to use a good brand aftermarket on an A/1 A/2? Just for the sake of knowledge, would this apply to the B/1 B/1 Tecate's? (same clutch right?) I read somewhere only to use stock Kawasaki clutches on the 2nd generation, now I'm curious.
I put the Barnett clutch in my Tecate about 20 years ago. lol. On just about everything else on a motor (jug and cylinder gaskets) I wouldn't use anything but oem. I have had good luck with this clutch.
