Hello all, just purchased a 85 Tecate this is my first in many ears, I owned some back in the late 80's and sold them-always wanted another and I finally got 1 that I am hopeful is a good starting block to restore to ride.I will be picking it up hopefully by weeks end and will post pictures.I have a couple questions if I may:
wheres a good place to get a manual for these?Online ones are ok, what do you guys use?
Usual things to look for right off the bat on these, swinger bearings?carrier?is there a common problem I should look for?
Carbs-stock is?
reeds, carbon fiber made for these currently?Boyseen rad valves a option?
Swingers, I have seen they can be purchased here, stock are prone to weld breaking?

Those are just a few, with many more to come I am sure.I appreciate the help and please bear with me, I might ask something dumb, but I honestly don't know much about these rides at all??

The manuals are for sale on Ebay.
I have one and can scan anything you need. The manual is for the 84 tecate but has an addendum at the rear for the different parts that the 85 has.
www.goallballs.com for all of your bearing needs. The carriers are plenty stout in stock form.
The 84 carb is a Mikuni VM32 and the 85 carb is a Mikuni VM34.
The Boyesen carbon reeds work great, it is what I have in mine. They also sell the V-force 3 reeds and cage for the tecate. I haven't used these before, but I hear good things about them.
The stock swingers are plenty strong, but they are heavy. www.hre-atv.com can build you a swinger in any configuration you can think of. I like the old school swingarms. The only way to find these is by fishing on Ebay, craigslist or the like. The other thing about stock swingarms is that with power it is difficult to keep the front end down. A +2 inch swingarm is perfect for all around riding, racing etc.

Congrats on the T3 mudbogger! If I recall correctly, someone on either this site or over at 3w.org had the manuals in PDF form for a download. They were just asking for a small 1 or 2$ donation to cover the cost of the bandwidth.I can highly recommend the V-force 3 reed cage setup. I have it on both my CR250, and my RM250 and the difference in the powerband on both bikes is nothing short of amazing. Cant wait to see some pics of your green machine!

Yes.. use photobucket.com.. save it to your computer and download it to photobucket. Then you can use the link for the image. If you want to show a picture that is saved by someone else put in back.

like this..

right click on the picture go to properties, cut and paste and put the in back.

Hope this helps..

Thanks, will tryto do that tonight. The Tecate is all stock it appears, the owner seems to not have a clue as to what is rare-stock, aftermarket, etc.He is a nice guy and keeps it up pretty well.I have seen new plastics for these-but all the tanks I see are faded, is the tank not made by Clarke?,or any other manufacturer currently? Also, the plastics are made by Maier I assume right?

Unfortunately no one makes a replacement tank for the 84-85 T3. I've spoken with the guys at Clarke and they say they would make them for an order of 10 or more. The hard part is getting 10 or more people to cough up the dough. The good news for you and me; is that with some sanding and polishing, most sun faded tanks and plastics can end up looking almost new. This is what I plan on doing for my restoration to both my tank and rear fenders. Oh yeah, Maier does make the front and rear fenders.

I have been wanting to get a tank.....count me in. If we can get a ballpark price, Im willing to put my money upfront!

Hmmmm, well if we can get some more takers I'd be willing to consider throwing down too. I'll call Clarke again and see about getting a price. They will probably need a tank to make a mold of too. I'd be willing to give mine up if that's the case. I'll let you all know what I find out. I'll try and get in touch with them again today, and then I'll start a new discussion to see how many would be interested. Oh yeah, mudbogger you got some pics for us yet!
