What replacement reeds have you Tecate guys chosen for the stock 86-87 stock bore kxt w/power valves? I see carbon reeds called super stock, power reeds and pro series or pro design, all by Boyesen.
I read in this group one time that " fresh " reeds could be bought for a newer kx250, the reeds possibly having a newer manufacturing date.

I am under the impression Boyesen carbon reeds deliver a more usuable/controllable power than stock reeds. Would new 20 year old reeds be fine since they haven't been exposed to gas, pressure, heat or oil.

The v-force type cage and reeds are probably more finicky to jet and better for high performance motors. Would they be worth putting on w/ stock motor/carb kxt used in recreational racing. Interested in your carb/reed/motor settups. 0% of this stuff is cheap and i appreciate your opinions.
    As always, Thank you.

mostly i used power reeds with stock cage cause I would find them cheaper. When ever I saw them around $20 I would just buy them. I have some like Mosbergs cause they were cheap but I switched to RAD valves.

The bolt pattern on the reed cages did not change for like all KX250 87-04 and can be found on watercraft too but the cage and reeds are different.

    Boyesen 615 power reeds

I am wondering about the Vforce reeds, if they might add some. The dual port power reeds though I am trying now. Bought that set off Ebay. Was thinking the exhaust is dual port with KIPS so the reeds may work with it nicely.

honestly to me it's just a valve, it opens and should close shut completely. One would be better off on spending money on porting, head mods, and a pipe for real power gains.

Ordered 2 sets of power reeds for less than i saw the single set for, thanks nd4speed. I will run these as long as i can avoid new crankseals, then some motor mods. The nos Bassani pipe complete kit went for about $1300.00 in February. Besides the close to stock DG, are there any other choices for these 2nd gens? Hope to hear some more cylinder to air filter setups in the future on stock and modified 86-87 Kxt's.

$1300 wow. I put a 1986 KX250 Pro Circuit pipe on mine for a bit and then went to a DG and could not tell much of a difference. I have never run a stock pipe and I have an Answer pipe/silencer I have never used yet. One of the things I found out on my Suzuki LT250R was the FMF pipe I bought was no better than stock. Actually my friends stock pipe with answer silencer seemed to have better low end and was just fine on stock motor. I found a Paul turner High rev and could not believe I bought that piece of crap FMF, it was a big difference. But the pipe was designed to move the power band into a higher RPM. Then I put a RM250 cylinder on with better porting and it was way more fun.
Having a huge pipe with a weak motor is not going to do anything. They must all work together.

I understand the budget and parts that just bolt on easy thing. So honestly just ride it until it is tired and have the thing ported/bored with a fresh piston.

There is Jemco exhaust and DG really, but the stock pipe is a good pipe. If I had a stock pipe I would use it because my DG is a huge pile of rust.

Nd4speed, did the 86 kx250 pipes have to be modified much to fit the kxt? Also, what is the newest model kx250 pipe that would be an option? 85?- (What year) would work?
