I have an 85 BR that I have been slowing working on here and there. I have replaced the rear fenders with Maier. The trunk lid is oem and in decent shape. I was thinking of painting it as well as the red portion of the front forks with Krylon "Red Pepper" colored spray paint. I had heard that this was a pretty good match. I'd like to hear any thoughts on the color choice before I try it out. Thanks! Jim
If the Krylon "Red Pepper" looks like the best match with Maier pieces, go with that. I have found many recommendations on the boards , other than custom mix, for Rustoleum "Sunrise Red" for near OEM Honda red. Good luck. Rick
Thanks for the reply. I'll check that color out too. How is the Rustoleum on plastic? I know the krylon is ok for both plastic and metal. I don't have much experience painting.
Closest I've found is Sunrise Red. Before you paint, have you tried the 60/40 mix paint thinner and boiled Lin seed oil rub on your plastics? There's at least one video on YouTube. I have seen it done and appears to be a good option for removing oxidation and bringing back the color... Due to the nature of plastic and how it expands and contracts at different rates depending on its proximity to heat or cold, in time it will peel. I'd avoid painting plastic if possible, I have painted a couple trunk lids and have had pretty good luck but you eventually end up repainting.
I'm looking to do the same on my Big Red but can't find the right color let me know how it looks.
