I've powdercoated the frame, the tank and the forks. and I figured I would rebuild the engine while I had it off the frame in my shop. it did not make any strange noises when I bought it, but I saw a hint of smoke and decided to go all in and change the piston and rings. I had the head rebuilt. Got a noise that sounded like a timing chain. I ordered a brand new timing Chain Puting it back together, I broke the CAM shaft. Also I broke a part in the clutch basket, so I bought a parts motor. picked it up and replaced the CAM and Clutch basket. (it was TRX300 motor, I read the CAM and Clutch were the same) Finally I put everything back together. Studied the tensioner in the manual and put it back in correctly this time. Fired it up and got the EXACT SAME NOISE. I adjusted the valves and no luck. I'm not confident I'm adjusting the valves at TDC. What confused me is the difference in strokes. I installed the cam with lobes down. When the lobes are up should the rocker arms have any play?

If its like a 200x head lobes up is not tdc. That the lobe is opening valve. Are you using the timing marks?
