KXT500 guys,wiring questions need help please

starting my build this week already have the motor in....however i bought just a motor for the swap not a complete bike,so i would like to use the stock T3 wiring,i assume that all the electronics will work except the head light and tail lights,basically i need to know were the wires off the KX stator should go in relation the the T3 harness wires

Are you using an 84-85 or 86-87 Tecate?

Do you have the cdi of the kx 500? I dont thing that the kx 500 will work with the tecate cdi.

I have also fotos of the wires on the 86 tecate to see where they go if you like them let me know

ill post pics as i go along,that drawing wont go larger for me,any ideas?i have to look through my parts to see if he sent me the 500 cdi,although im not sure why the tecate cdi wouldnt be able to fire of the coil as long as the wiring is correct they are both the same voltage system and accomplish the same function

You need to use the kx500 cdi if you are using the kx500 stator/flywheel setup. The tecate and kx500 cdi's have completely different timing curves from eachother. Engine damage and poor running would likely happen. Also the kx500 stator does not have a lighting coil to power the stock tecate lights, but you can buy aftermarket lighting coils that bolt right on the stock kx500 stator plate with no mods for around $70. A clymer manual has a very detailed wiring diagram on the kx500's.

i was aware of the lighting,that doesnt concern me right now,do you know if i could use any cdi fromany year kx or does it have to be from 89 and up?i cat remember if he sent the cdi or not.....ill check when i get down to the shop on minday,if not does nayone know wher i can get one,i already searched e-bay and all of them on there are 85/6 &7

A cdi from a 90 and newer k5 is what you want to have. 87-89 cdi's were the same, in 89 some models had the older style cdi on them and some of the later 89's had the newer current style cdi. To be sure I would just get a 90 and newer one.

do yu know of hane if the kx250 cdi's of the same year were interchangeable with the 500's?im assuming not but ya never know

seems like a logical theroy,i just wonder if anyone has ever done it,so do you think that the kx250 uses the same timing curves as the 500's?
