Yes, it's a Crf 230 engine. The carb and pipe from the X were retained. I haven't personally ridden it so I can't say for sure. But they really seem to like it. Of course there's always run for improvement, it's still all stock.

whats with the battery? is it too much of a hassle to start?
i think batterys are bad cause when you get in a wreck acid can escape and on rare occasions batteries can explode.

a 230f is electric start only...unsure if you can convert it to a kickstart...I can't remember if the case has a port for it..or do you have to machine the case...?
I wish my father would give me his 230 motor once he steals my 200x motor..but no..I'm stuck motorless till I buy something..guess I'll be picking up a XR200

Just to answer a few quick questions.... it was 06 CRF230 ....electric start. Not sure on the gears, Yes, it bolts right in. No mods. He welded a battery box ( 300EX) beside the airbox. Yes it's faster. I'll try to get him to actually sign in and answer some questions. He's been a member for a year or so but has never posted.

Nice way to get a 6 speed. I think you can bore the boss out for a kicker, if you send the engine, 200X kick assy, and some cash to DC, he's the king.
One thing I love about CRF230s, there is never too high a gear to bog down. It cracks right back into the powerband.

These newer engine swaps are very interesting! So a crf engine is 223cc with a 65.5 bore and 66.2 stroke, a 200x is 192cc and 65 bore and 57.8 stroke. Is the cylinder the same as the x? is the crank the only thing different and will it interchange with a x for a stroker? This really makes my gears turn thinking about what parts are interchangable.
