I agree with MTS about it not being a KX250 but it almost looks like an enduro bike or trail bike without the blinkers and not so sure that seat belongs with it and I don't really recall any with the front fender mounted like that! I'm not so sure it's even a 250cc motor in there... it could be something smaller like a 125 or 175. Displacement is usually stamped on the side of the jug somewhere.

Well the engine is a 250 cause it has a stamp for 24? cc cant remember if it says 246 or 240. Ill get a vin for the engine and for the bike later on today. I was just told it was a 250 Kawi. I figured what the hell, for 75 bucks, lol. Now looking at the pipe and the engine, i do believe it is a 4 stroke.

old KLR 250 guys...its a old dual sport stripped of its street gear. 1984 i think they came out, if not i know 1985 then and ran until 2005. everyone is the same, good luck with it. yeah and its a 4 stroke LOL.

its no smaller bike, its not KX with a 4 stroke stuffed in it, its nothing other then a plain old KLR250

I had actually posted that it was an early to mid 80s KLR 250 too because I initially thought so but the KLR's had dual shocks on the rear not single so I deleted my post. I'm pretty baffled by this one myself.

EDIT: It is a KLR 250. I just did some checking and they switched to the mono shock in the rear in 85. 83 and 84 were the only years with the dual shocks. That seat was used from 90-94 so it is probably one of those years. Hard to narrow it down beyond that without a VIN because as oldskool said, they are all the same.

well you cant argue with 75 bucks! haha this is interesting did the klr come with plastics like that or are those Kx plastics? the fenders look to moto oriented to be off a kx and it doesnt even look like the front fender is mounted just sitting on the tire. but whatev its a bike for 75 washingtons! sweet!

Well, its like this. I dont know pretty anything about bikes. Ive never owned one and have only ridden a couple. Ive been wanting one and seen this for 75 bucks. I figured hell for 75 bucks i can either fix it or sell it. I had no clue to exactly what it is. Which is why im trying to get all the info from you guys as i can. So as soon as i can get all the right info from you guys i can get to wrenching on it. But i need to find out exactly whats there and what i need to do to get it going.

Well I ran the vin on a web-site. Found out it is an 1990 KL250, im guessing the whole thing is, unless you guys think there are parts on it from other bikes. I feel kinda dumb not knowing but oh well. My first bike! So the bike has compression, turns over nicely, is pretty much all there with a lil rust. So, big question is........In your opionions, good bike-bad bike? Fix and ride-sell for parts/whole? I would like your guys' opionons seeing that you all know about this more than i. Thanks

Fix it up and ride the heck out of it. The plastics on it are consistent with a 90-94 model as I stated in my earlier post. The seat too. All the models from 86 on seem to have the same parts and you can always cross reference them on ronayers to be sure. There are plenty of parts out there for everything you need. Put some marvel oil in the cylinder, change the plug, clean the tank, and buy a carb rebuild kit. Once you get it fired up and running you can start replacing things like cables, chain, sprockets, and brakes. It should be an easy fix up and will be a blast to ride when you are done.

ok, cool. I was wanting to fix up. But if it wasnt worth it then i would have sold it. I just hope i dont roll the thing over. I can barely touch the ground. lol. So any ideas on where to get parts. Obviously the net, but any good sites? What is ronayers?

KLR650forum.com has a 250 section on it. ebay is best. just be prepaired your gonna prob have way too much into it cuz thats how these kinda bikes go with missing parts. always tripple your estimated costs and time.

does it even run? if not add another $400 for the heck of it.
