    '86 250r Resto-Mod Build Thread

Well I finally received my NOS rear fender so now I can start on the tear down and inspection phase of my bike. This is what it looks like as we speak.

This is the pile of NOS plastic I have been piling up over the last several month. I was very luck to find the deals I've have found and have right at $900 in all the plastic pictured here.

The build will be a sort of Resto-Mod and not 100% OEM. It will have a Weastcoast+4 Swing Arm, and a Pro-x ESR 310 with the ESR center Mount Pipe. I wish I could have found a "86 Westcoast but the one I have is for an "85 so I have to swap out the axle and brake stuff for the '85 swinger.

Once the heat dies down and I get my Mother In Law's junk out of my garage and into her new house, I'll start on the tear down and powder coating. I'll update the thread as progress lets me.

I almost for got to add that I have Mr. Clean to thank for the NOS plastic. If he didn't do such a damn good job on the 250r tanks, I wouldn't have needed to surround it with new plastic. After seeing how they all turn out, nothing but new plastic would be worthy. I also have a complete decal kit coming from Harlan.

Nothing to get to excited over but I had a few small parts show up and my Decal kit from Harlan has arrived. They look great and I can't wait to put them on the fenders. I fiqured I might as well get this little stuff while its still available.

I'm almost done putting my TRX back together. Once its done and sold then the tear down of the R begins. Right now its just in the parts collecting stage.

Thanks guys, the shroud stickers are still available, but Harlan offers them in a whole kit so I just went that way.

I'm watching to see how this build will be going. I do like the term resto-mod alot better, but I'm funnly like that. I think you have a great start to a great project.

Thanks Pat, I also like that term better. I think "Restoration" gets thrown around to often (usually by myself) and should be used for guys like Vintage restoration, and Buster Brown, but Resto-Mod should be used for a bike like mine. I think of it in car terms, like when a guy takes a 69 Camaro and completely redoes the body and it still looks like a factory '69, but it might have a modern drive train and 18" wheels on it. Its still a Camaro and its been restored, but also modded with the builders little touches that the factory didn't do.

Send this guy an email. He's out of Minnesota and will take a few days if not a week or two to get back to you. The kit was $73 + shipping. His name is Harlan.
