ATC 110 clutch adjustment

hey guys, new to this forum, looking for some help with a friends ATC 110. oh, and yes i did use the search button before posting.

this bike is an '84, been sitting probably 15 years, and i just got it running today after a carb and tank cleaning. but i noticed something while riding about the clutch. it seems to have a very soft engagement, like its slipping. but once you're moving it doesnt slip at all and performs as it should. when i checked the oil it was really black, and could stand to be changed, but would that affect the clutch at all? also, i see a nut and washer sort of thing on the clutch side of the motor. is that for adjusting it? and how do i go about adjusting it the right way?

Adjust center screw counter clock wise till you get a little resistance and then back a 1/4 turn clock wise and then lock it back with the nut . And yes change the oil .

Yeah, who knows what it's been thru in 1/4 century.
Might even be some sort of miracle graphite oil.

If it doesn't slip when running and doesn't JUMP!
when clicked into gear, the clutch adjustment may just be ok.

There is oil specifically for the wet clutches altho regular 10 40 will do,
especially if you use it to kinda flush it out and then
use some 6 dollar a quart stuff designed for the trike specifically.

Free manual are in the 'world class help' section.
The clutch adjustment is very specific but also very simple.

I keep forgetting or I'd tell you exactly what to do.

something like, loosen this, tighten that, clockwise, counterclockwise,
then back off 1/4 turn and lock the locknut.

i really wanna buy this bike, but i think my friends father is one of those people who would rather it sit and rot than sell it to someone who would enjoy it. and if he did sell it, i think he would want way more than its worth...

I tell people they can buy things back at the same price, if that helps.
EsPecially if they have to sell stuff because they need the $$.

Many are sad to see them go, but to a good home, helps.
and they realize how many years since they've even looked at them
and how long they've been 'getting around' to fixing them.

idk, it's a touchy subject.

maybe, idk. i just hope that him seeing i got it running and wanna take care of it helps him sell it to me. and i know he didnt want his son riding it because it was "too dangerous", but maybe i can talk him into it since i had an atc 70 when i was 5 lol.

oh, and after checking out the bike further it is 100% complete, even has the factory tool kit lol. all it needs is some cleaning and taking care of the rusty exhaust and it would look mint, and i was shocked the bars weren't even bent. there's only 1 broken part, the tail light lens. i REALLY hope to get it, it's gonna make a sweet vintage 3 wheeler.

Where you able to figure it out? I have the same issue after an engine rebuild. Has 146psi and top speed is great but no low end grunt at all. Hard to wheelie even in low range..
