Just picked up an 85 200x!!

New to the "club" just picked up an 85 200x. Used to have several trikes when i was younger and saw this one sitting on the side of the road and ended up snaggin it for $175!!! I think I got a killer deal! All it needs is a clutch which i already have and where my questions begins. I downloaded a manual and am plenty mechanically inclined i was just wondering about soaking the new clutch disks?? I found a little info in other threads but couldn't get a definite yes or no answer if this is a necessary process? Either way insight on the matter would be good. And here is my new trike!

On the clutches, It isnt a big deal to soak them first. I have heard people argue yes and no, but it is easy to throw them in oil before you start tearing it down. That way they are ready when you are.

WOW! Nice score! Looks like she mainly needs some cosmetic work. Its a good idea to pre-soak your clutch discs. When the clutches are installed, they are squeezed together pretty tightly, (im sure you are aware of this), and this makes it difficult for the oil to soak into the discs like it needs to. Let em soak in a pan of clean oil while you are disassembling and you'll be good to go. I dont believe that not soaking them is detrimental, it just can cause a little bit of excessive initial wear when you first run it.

If its a cherry 2nd gen 200x, in my area $1500 is about right. If its a cherry 1st gen, thats about $500 too high. Either way he's on crack to say they bring $2500-$3500.......Keep looking bro....

Soaking your clutch discs depends on the clutch material. If you are using clutch discs that are like the original honda clutch discs, then yes, it's a must to pre soak them. If you are using a clutch disc like a barnett kevlar disc, then it's not really necessary.

Thanks for the info guys, turns out it says to soak them for a few minutes in the directions. installed the clutch today and it went very well, except for the dang special tool needed to for the two lock-nuts. Not too big of a deal though, was able to sacrifice an old socket and grind one up to fit. A new clutch makes a heck of a big difference!!
