swapping 250r forks 1983 onto 1982 , can this be done?

hi, im new too the site and looking to ask you kind fellas for some info, im looking to swap my front end from my 1983 250r onto my 1982 250r , can this be done ? i need to put new bearings in the 83 steering tube , i tried looking at part numbers to see if the 82 and 83 bearings were the same , they dont seem to match up..... what i think is they will fit as the steering tubes will be the same size ..... i just dont want to pull the forks off the 82 as they work ok just now and im a regular rider...... just hoping someone has done this already and can point me in the right direction rather than me stripping both bikes to check...... thanks in advance regards gordon

it can be done. I don't know what all is involved, but I'm assuming very little. here is my buddy's 82 with an 83/84 front end.

Yeah, he's got the 2nd gen carrier but I think he did his own swing arm extension, so I'm not sure exactly how he did it.

The 82 250r has the loose ball bearings. The 83 has tapered bearings in the steering stem.If you get the tapered bearing kit for the 82 it would pretty much be a direct bolt on.The 83 -84 swingarm is to wide for the 82 frame .Iv seen it done but a lot of work .Also the 81-82 250r does not have a pro-link suspension like the 83 -84 .Some guys on other sites have been using 450r quad swingarms on their 82 250r .There is a little work to do but nothing major.
