I posted earlier about my trip to the dunes in Kermit TX. We had a casualty - my Loncin powered 200x quit moving under it's own power. The failure was immediate so I feared the worst but turns out the clutch is smoked. Clutch material everywhere.
The cable was at the end of it's adjustment from the beginning and, I believe, after a little wear, it let the clutch slip. Add paddles and a novice user (probably never noticed any slipping) and that's what I get. My fault not the engine's. Maybe the rider's but that's my fault, too for not teaching him any better.
Pics of the mess attached. I'm glad it's the clutch - that's easy. After a few hours of research, I figured out these engines use Honda XR80/XR100 clutch plates. Fascinating. Once I had the case cover off and looked at some XR pictures in mauals, all the parts look the same. Took forever to find measurements for the clutch plates even with a lead to the XR plates.
The original XR80 uses 3 frictions and 2 steels. The XR100 uses 4 & 3. My engine uses 6 & 5.
I ordered 2 XR80 friction kits. They're under $20 each shipped. I'll clean and bead blast the steels. If they're not warped, they're going back in. I'll re-use the gasket and cross my fingers. This things going to get a couple of quick oil changes anyway. What a mess.
I fixed the cable adjustment issues, too. Moved/removed some lock nuts for a little more adjustment.
