    1986 Honda TR200 FatCat project

    Hey folks,

Though I'd post a few pictures of my modified '86 Fat Cat which now has the front triple-clamps off a '86 Honda 350x and the forks off an '82 XR200. I reused the stock FatCat hub and axle, although I also mounted the front aluminum wheel off an '86 250X. As well, I had to fabricate a 7/8" spacer to extend the rear shock (just height, not travel) as the front forks add about 4" of travel vs. the stock FatCat's.Click image for larger version.

The pictures a little old, but now I also fitted the front brake plate/cable from an '82 XR200 as well due to length issues with the standard TR200 cable setup.
All in all, very happy with the results now, the bike soaks up the bumps better and the stance is nicer having the extra height.

Coming soon: Front 200x disc conversion and aluminum silencer mounted.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Added bark busters, new grips, and fabbed a lengthened stainless kickstand to compensate for the extra height.Attachment 141737

Fitting the stock light shroud to the new 350x triples to check the fit.Click image for larger version.

It worked out the the stock Fatcat fender and light braket bolted right up to the 350x lower triple crown, whereas I believe the 200x models mount a little different.

Also just finished these off last night, I welded some extra steel around my footpegs to make them wider. Obviously nobody makes aftermarket ones for these bikes and no other parts interchanged from Honda.Click image for larger version.

well Just for Info's sake. 1987 ATC 200x , front suspension Disc brake and complete manual clutch Engine will bolt right up will minimal effort only the intake manifold and upper motor mount off the fat cat have to be installed on the 200X engine
and with the clutch also comes the 6 speed transmission too!!! you will lose the E start and battery with the 200x wiring

I'm new to the forem but have a stock 86 fat cat that I'm looking to do some improvements on. So I need a 86 350X front forks? what type of rear shock did you buy? As you can tell I'm a newbie to all this stuff so any help would be appreciated. Great job on your conversion!

    Hi Dave

Great post! I', a new owner of an 87 Fat cat and love the upgrades you did. Just so I'm clear, I need to front triple-clamps off a '86 Honda 350x and the forks off an '82 XR200 to make the change to mine. Did you buy a new rear shock or did you just re-use the old? If you were to buy a new one, can you reccomend a manufacturer and size? thanks again. Hogie
