My camera doesn't take great photos in anything other than natural sunlight, but I got a few decent ones. Anyway, I got the twisty on, along with getting the motor mostly reassembled. However, I need a replacement head (Exhaust Stud hole is damaged beyond repair). Onto the photos

My goal here is to get another head, and get this motor back together. Once that's done, I can go ahead and assemble this trike and experience all of the power and torque that I was missing out on.
If I can restore this piece of junk, anything is possible.

It's not much, but here's basically the same photos, just in a better resolution.

    Twisty

Also, I found a valve compressor, and got the head repaired. So, this thing should run today.

    A video update

Which is now outdated. The head took 5 hours to repair, repetitively lapping the intake valve until it finally sealed. So, the head's on, but not torqued. It should run tomorrow.

When I first started working on my 1985 ATC 110 engine, it had very little compression because there was insufficient clearance between the intake valve tappet and rocker arm. Re-setting the clearance to 0.003" restored compression. I suspect it had valve seat recession due to operation on un-leaded fuel.

FYI - On a 1971 Honda Trail 90 I have, the exhaust valve clearance would close up after ~1500 miles of operation (happened three times). Prior to that, when its cylinder head was removed to replace the exhaust valve guide oil seal, I did not notice whether or not Honda hard-faced the valve seats. If the valve seats are not hard-faced then it will be susceptible to valve seat recession when un-leaded fuel is used. I now add MDR Re-Lead to the fuel for both machines to coat the valve seats to mitigate valve seat recession.

Did you notice whether or not there are valve seat inserts in the cylinder head?

From what I saw, there was a metal sleeve that went around the seat. If that is what you're talking about, then yes. To ask, what BMW do you have? I have an 85 318i - http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...My-318i-Thread

As for the 110, it is now running again. Unfortunately, I thought RTV for the side cases was good enough. Gaskets will be here later this week.

Your 110 looks a lot like my 110. Besides restoration, it's a fun machine to ride but I find it to be challenging to make a U-turn on a downhill incline without experiencing its tendancy to roll over. FWIW, there is a Loctite orange-colored product which is applied to flange mating surfaces to form a gasket. I used it on another engine at the hydraulic cam chain tensioner's flanged connection (as recommended by the manufacturer).

    PS I have a BMW R1100RS, an R65LS and an R75/5.

I have nothing to show for it, but I rode it today.

    WOW!

With good compression and fresh rings, this trike's quicker than I expected. The twisty helps as well, I can now ride for much longer than before and avoid my hand being sore. I'm not going to call it done (that's impossible), but I will say it's "assembled for a long period of time". I'll get you guys some video, but it'll probably be Sunday.

Looks like you've come a long way, nice looking trike. I know what you mean about needing a fresh rebuild, my 200m is feeling more tired everytime I ride it.
