    This years Elan project

This is my 8th or 9th elan 'Ive owned and usually i fix em up a use away but im preparing this one to be a super clean runner (not a full restoration)

    I replaced:
Engines pistons, pistons rings crank seals crank bearings and gaskets. Also new points.
Bogey wheels and bearings along with cog shaft bearings
    Secondary clutch bearings
    It has a new track
    Ski leg bushings
    New pull cord rope
Body work and paint on tunnel
Striped what ever could be striped and painted
Chrome grab bar off an Olympique
Found an original under hood tool box

    To be replaced.:
I have all new fuel lines
Made a new harness and wrapped in wire loom to clean it up.(not installed yet)
Replace old skis(currently cleaned and painted up) with new skis otw
New cables(have them just not installed)
Other paintable items, (clutch covers etc)
New tie rod ends(have them just not installed)

    What I need:

I,m looking for a better condition hood, mines fixable but id like a near mint hood(even though i probably gonna end up spraying it
    Headlight assemble
    Handle bar pad
Handle bar kill switch and light switches
    Tail light lens

    and i'm sure there's more

I'm planning on once its said and done to do the hood white with the 76?? decals . The blue and green ones. Everything super clean and mechanically sound but still not afraid to get dings and scratches, thats all the fun of it.

Being stupid i never really had many pics during the build but i have pics as she sits now and what i started with

    The black one

And a pic of me stopped for a cook up with the elans in the background

    Heres her recent state

    The oly grab bar

    New track

And finally a few shots of how she sits now

Thanks for looking and any in put is welcome

Nice machines! A friend of mine who lives here has a bunch of those from all years. He hails from Labrador, go figure! I'll let him know your looking for some things. He's on here but not much. I think his user name is 300ElanSS or something like that.

I had a couple of these when I lived in the North Bay area..ugly, beatup and slow. But they always ran even when the trail was so bumpy I could watch the boggie wheels run away from under the machine. Always got me home!

    Good on you kid..

A real lesson in love there, they aren't fast and nor are they much to look at but they run forever in any kind of condition and never bltch about it!

Thanks for the words guys. And although they ain't fast i love em. I know how reliable they start. Yesteday i fired it up. The motor was siting since last year. I rebuilt it just for chuckles. When i put it in I primed it and didn't even have to pull the cord half way out and she ran beautiful.

Heres a couple qick pics from the past 3 or 4 years

Very cool indeed !!! I love starting fires in the winter/snow... Warm up and eat some grub, and hit the trails some more. I cant wait for a big snow so we can nestle in the thick woods and pretend im roughin it !!! Nice pics/sleds. I love the vintage way of doing things..any clown can buy a new sled and play...but you sir are doing it with class !!!

So I have a couple exciting updates. I have installed and successfully jetted a larger 36mm carb on the elan. Also I finished a sweet vintage megaphone set up.
I've had a couple sleds with it. Everyone argues megaphones are crap but with these old one lungers the proper length and diameter megaphone is a decent
improvement over the super restrictive un-engineered mufflers. Plus it sounds badass and is a nice vintage touch.
Also I took two of my mangled hoods and began cutting and hacking to make one beautiful one. Ill post some before and after and it'll be pretty impressive.

Here's a video, although it ain't a rotax or skidoo you'll get the megaphone idea. Enjoy
