WOW! Well, the rear brake is mechanical when operated by the foot pedal, but I wouldn't trust just the rear brake. These machines were designed to use the hydraulic system from the front brake lever, the foot pedal for the rear was just for back up.

There should be a rod going from the foot brake pedal to the rear caliper. there is an adjustment on the rear caliper for the foot pedal. You can find instructions on adjustment in your manual.

The only option for replacing the brake system parts on these is ebay, dealer parts are expensive. I upgraded the brake parts on my 91 to the newer mid 90's parts.

Sorry Stud, dropped the ball on this thread.

Most parts from any mid 90's Polaris should fit. The master Cylinder/reservior should be upgraded to the newer plastic style res., mid 90's should work, probably all the way up to 2000.

Brake calipers I would stick with no newer than mid 90's, probably 95 or so. I could check my ebay purchases and see what I got for calipers.

The other very important thing with these machines is th ecounter balance. You need to check and make sure that the counter balance compartment has oil in it and that the seal for the water pump is not leaking. If it's leaking there will be coolant in the counter balancer compartment of the crankcase.

    What year is the machine?

92 is the year. i just picked up a parts machine with everything I need short of an airbox and 4x4 push button switch. The motor in the parts bike seems solid. I am going to get her pulled out tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

When you get a 4x4 switch, go with the newer round one. The older toggle style switch sucks.

Let me know what your plans are for the bad motor. I may take it off of your hands if you want to get rid of it.
