When I look at the Trikesylvania thread titles this one just appears as "TecateDan and Flabios joint" The "500 effort" part does not appear. I keep expecting some sort of Cheech and Chong themed post when I open it.

Anyway, it would be so cool to see you guys cut a KX 500 pile into a zillion little rings (make sure you number them!) and TIG weld them back together into the shape you need for an in-frame pipe and then chrome it. Don't forget to purge the inside of the pipe with Argon if you do end up doing something like that.

I'm going to start bringing my camera instead of using my phone for these pics.

If you look close enough, you can see a couple of welds that I finished up that Kawi had missed. There will be some extra gusseting on this frame, but it doesn't appear to need a whole lot. There were a couple of hidden seams as well that Kawi deemed unnecessary to weld. You can't see them all in the pics.

The welds on these bungs could have been cleaner, but I forgot to clean that paint off right there. I blame Dan for not checking my work.

If you've got a keen eye, you will see why I had to jump on Ebay and order another right side engine case while we were working. Oh the wonders of technology...

This is the pipe that came with my 86 Tecate 500. It's a cut and cobbled KX 500 pipe that actually almost kind of fits this bike already. I think we're going to chop it up and make it work for the time being. It's already pretty close.

Next time I go back over there, the first thing I'd like to pick back up on is finishing the frame by the bottom of the headset where the new metal meets the existing frame. Next time I'll be getting there earlier in the morning.

I specifically told you to grind that paint off but you were all like once I get a bead going the paint will burn right off... HACK

Looks great guys.. I wanted to mention about the footpeg mounts. On my '84 frame where the footpeg mounts came to a point at the top "of the pyramid" so to speak had just been spot welded at the tip. On a long run of whoops the spot weld broke and I ended up with a footpeg pointing at the ground. I think the area on the '85 frames are fully welded at the seam.

Just a thought.. If it would have let go off a jump it could have been a bad deal..

Looking really good! Are you guys running the stock shock linkage? The airfilter area is tight back there. I know when my buddy had his '84 500, the airfilter was always the hurdle. Looking forward to some progress!

Thanks for the heads up! We haven't gotten that far yet, so we will cross that bridge when we get to it!
