You guys have nothing to explain to anyone, it will look great when it done. Welding an old frame is a bi*ch. The factory welds are craap, there is paint and oil trapped under all the formed connections and the original welds are usually full of porosity. European makes are the only frames I’ve ever seen great welds on consistently, Jap rhymes with...
Keep in mind that when you are welding up all the unfinished factory welds that some of them are left that way for water drainage. If you chose to weld them solid make sure there aren’t any “feeds” that will fill a tube or joint with water that can’t escape.
One other thing, it’s a lot easier to work on a frame if its sandblasted first, but if you work on it like you guys are I’ve found that washing out the factory joints with a little thinner and then after they are wiped dry, I heat them a little with a torch to get the oil and paint all burnt off makes it easier to weld. It also reduces the chance of oil seeping out when you paint or powder coat it later.
