My first water pumper atc 250 R Build thread.

I just got this Trike. The guy had lots of receipts from parts and what not for it. The engine is all new inside, but not sure what has been done inside. Came with about a $1000 worth of extra parts also, some N.O.S stuff. It needs some work but it is a great starting point. The exhaust is a cool old Answer system right out of 1985 ( I looked through my old dirt wheels and found the add's to verify the headpipe) and it is in nice shape. Seat is super nice, brand new maier rear fenders, New back tires and ITP thick wall rims, factory front tire that is about half tread but weathered, front will get replaced. Carb is a little messed up so will probally get a later trx unit. It needs an entire headlight assembly. It also needs the switch for the lights and what not for the left side on the bars, it sucks the guy had a nice looking one that did not work right so he tossed it in the trash years ago. The rear axle bearings are not good and the carrier may be damaged, have a complete lonestar set up and a durablue extended axle I am looking at for it but it is from an 87 and not 100% if it is the same yet. I have the 1985-86 Honda shop manual and also the clymer one that covers the trx so been doing lots of reading. This is the first liquid R I have owned. I am pretty excited to have this trike in my stable. I was really after a 86 350x but can not find one, that is nice and not 1000's of miles away. Parts are alot easier to find for this also so I think I will like it. This trike has one of the nicest looking plastic tanks I have ever seen. I will probbally order a set of rad scoops and a new fender to match the rear. I only took a few pics for now it has been snowing and nasty so I just pushed it up in my barn for now, I am building a new shop as soon as it warms up. The building is up already but no wiring or any thing on the inside yet. This may be the project that see's the new shop first. Although I do have an 81 and anouther 82R I just got that I want to redo also.

I think I will get it riding and everthing working on it for now and then stip it down and get the frame powder coated and redone. I do not plan on any engine work as it is all done already. If all this lonestar stuff will work I will probally do that and that dura blue extended axle right away. I want to get one of my 81 R's and my 200'x drag bike powderd but am having a hard time finding some one that will do a frame in my area for a decent price. I may also be buying a full metal finshing and poishing shop out that did detailing on show cars, so if that happens there will be lots of shinny parts on everthing I own, starting with my trikes.

You MUST use an '85 style carrier in your '85 swingarm. The 86-later carriers are larger in overall diameter and will not fit in your 85 swingarm. Durablue still offers their carrier in '85 spec last time I checked, which was only a month or 2 ago.

However, you CAN use an '86-later axle in the '85 carrier. You just need to switch to the '86-later rear sprocket.

I am running an '86-later Durablue Eliminator axle and rear sprocket in my '85 right now with no issues.

You can check on Durablue's website to verify this...

    Just so you know...

    Nice find!

Sweet, I have been looking for a water pumper for a while but they never seem to turn up around here. I have a a couple air coolers but really want to track down an 85 or 86.

Thanks Ride-Red 250r for the info, this is my first R that is water cooled and I am learning fast.
I have a vintage snowmobile bussiness, I try to house 225-350 sleds at all times. The most I ever had was 700 and that was crazy sleds where everywhere, in everyshed and on every trailer because I had no where to go with them. I have a facebook page under my shop name, Mountain Breed Sleds, that I have some sled pics on if any one wants to check out.

Bought a plus six Dura blue axle with sprocket hub today, super sweet axle and is chromed. I have a new 38 tooth sprocket that I will be useing, I also have a few 39 tooth's and a 40 I think. But using one of the 38's. Will post a pic of the axle later.

Nice ride Pipeline! It will be great to have one more 2 stroke on the trails this year. The engine looks like an '86. Karl

Well it has been awhile. I have been collecting parts and goodies for this for apparently 2 years now. This trike got stripped down and then I found a very nice 86 350X. I also thought I would not rush and just collect some parts for it. I do have some pics of the tear down and issue's that arose. lots of stuff was the usual. Just got the frame sandblasted today, I will post some pics of that also soon. This past summer I registered it in my name also. I am the first registered owner. I plan on getting the frame cleaned up a little more and in primer in the next few days.
