Oh and if anybody is interested, I have a rebuilt ES differential ready to go and as soon as the bearing and seal kit arrive, I'll have an SX diff too. 325.00 completely rebuilt and powder coated. Good for another 25 years. If you guys have a diff you need rebuilt, shoot me a message. I got it going on......

I put it in my Dremmel and send the drill through it. Getting the startup jet out is easy. #4 sheetmetal screw and an old flat blade screwdriver with a slot cut in it so it fits up under the screw head. Screw the #4 screw in about 1 full turn. Don't worry about hurting the jet with the screw. The metering hole is down below where the sheetmetal screw goes. I place the shank from another screwdriver on top of the jet stack so the slotted screwdriver is about level and I pry the startup jet out. Easy peasy japaneasy.. The next time I do one, I'll take some pictures. If you can't find the drills, let me know and I'll pick them up here and mail it to you. Up there where you are you need the cold start mod. The problem is the jet is too small and it didn't provide enough fuel to fire a cold soaked motor. The 86 carbs had a larger jet.
Thanks for the tips Flyingw! I've mucked around with several carbs in the past, and have decent mechanical knowledge of things so like you say it's probably something I can do myself. But if you do another one and have a chance to post up some pics that would be much appreciated. Your description of what to do it very thorough, but you know what they say about pictures...ha ha. Also thanks for offering to help me out by sending me that micro drill. I'll try to find one around here, but if I can't find one I might just take you up on that offer!

I think I need to hang a 'back in two hours(ish)' sign on the shop door!! PC repair can wait!

If my BR runs half as good as this carb looks, I'm singing.

Hey Jim, still waiting on those diff pics..I gotta see that!

Revise..it runs great!! Great carb..thanks Jim.

That drill is also called a number drill, the decimal equivalent is .0031” which is a #104 drill. You can also buy them individually, typically at regular hardware stores, true value hardware stores, maybe home depot, harbor freight, white cap and industrial hardware supply stores.

    Hello Flyingw

No problem, you're very welcome. Those conversion charts are also online but I just divided .08 mm by 25.4 to get the decimal number.

OK guys, here's some pics of how I remove the startup screw. Works every time. Remove the jet, send the drill through the jet, and reinstall. Be sure to shoot carb cleaner through the hole before reinstalling.

And for Doug, here's the ES diff I rebuilt last weekend. I'm waiting for the bearing kit for the SX diff and it will be ready to go.
