atc110 vs early 125m Can you feel the difference?

So, I am a die hard 110 guy, but frankly I'd love just a little more to get my fat 250lbs ass around. I only drive the 110 in low range, and mostly trails logging roads, and slow stuff.

I do have a late model 125m which I am currently rebuilding, and have yet to ride it, but they are abit heavier, and I love the agility of the 110.

SO question is, does the early 125m really offere much better performance over the 110?

I've been tossing around the idea of throwing a dg on the 110, and maybe seeing if I can get a little more compression out of it, but if the 125 is that much better, it may be a better option.

ANd for shits n giggles, how do the late model 125ms compare?

I Love my points 90 and will walk past the 250 except when I need the suspension.
I got a 125 last fall but never really ran it much due to a busted shift drum stopper.
The newer 125m have a vertical engine, but that's about all I know.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 90/110 for full sized humans that I know of.
Mine pulled a full sized F250 ford pickup across the gravel driveway.
..and 5 or 6 will fit in the truckbed for a trip to the dunes.

ps - imho fancy exhaust may require weeks of rejetting the carb..not my favorite.
and as much of a renegade as I am, I like spark arresters too.
Pointless way to get a ticket at the dunes or have to stop riding.

I have my rs for the dunes haha.

My spark arrestor is kinda mute at this point, I knocked a few holes in bottom over some logs n rocks awhile back. The damn thing will make you go deaf.

I've been getting better at jetting lately so I am not too worried about that.

I just want a fair comparison between the 2.

the late 125s are quite different 5 speed with reverse. THe only chain driven factory atc with reverse from honda ironically. I'd love a 200s engine with reverse, would make a really nice trike for the woods in a 200x frame

I have had 2 1985 ATC 125m machines, and several ATC 110 machines. I did not notice any real power increase with the 125 over the 110. The only real advantage of the 125m was the electric start. I have noticed that the '84-'85 ATC 125m machines seem to be prone to shift drum, shift drum stopper, and transmission problems. I sold my 125m machines and will not buy another one, I will stay with 110's.

I have an '85 125M and is plenty powerful in both ranges. I did replace the shift drum stopper. That is all though, trans is fine otherwise. The replacement part from Honda is improved over original. Thicker arm etc. The aftermarket ones are not as well made IMO. I know as I bought both. The trans, engine etc is identical to the 110. Only difference from what I have found and been told is the cylinder and carb. It is a fine atc and handles excellent! It feels just as quick as my big red!
The 125M is basically a 110 with electric start.

the 125 bsasically has more torque and its rpm operating range is lower.

it will climb hills a bit better etc and does not need to be revved to the moon.

i also prefer a 110 over a 125 simply because they are fun to beat the livin bejesus out of.

of you want a 110 and do not have one yet i strongly suggest a kawi klt 110. it will out handle [as if a 110 handles] a honda 110 by a mile and beat it by a mile in a drag race.

it also has a clutch that can be operated automatically or by hand.

they have a 5 speed trans but no high and low, if you never use high low on a honda you won't miss it.

the front forks are also much better than the hondas and are set up for a heavier rider or higher perf riding

once you ride one of these you may never want to ride a honda 110 again.

I only rtide in low on my 110s unless its a long flat road. They just dont have balls to move me up hills fast. Most of my riding is going up or down long hills, they call them mountains on the east coast lol.

I;d love to try a klt 11, but I have never even seen one for sale.

The answer to your question is no, you will not feel a difference. If you want more power, look into the newer big bore aftermarket engines offered by multiple manufacturers.

well of course you realize that at 250 lbs a 110 certainly won't be in a rush to get you anywhere, much less to the top of a hill. the klt has a lot of power for a stock 110 but it would still not be much better than a honda in that situation.

also in this instance a 125 won't be a big improvement if you notice one at all.

you need big cubes to move big weight. i know you love 110's but you might look at some honda 300 - 350 bikes or at least a 200.

yes the klt's are very hard to find.

its hard to sell stuff no matter how good it is when honda has such a big name so not a lot of them were sold. a guess might be 40 honda 110's to every kawi 110, lol.

I agree with 'jokeking', if you want more power but really like the small, non-suspended format the 185s is tops. Maybe consider a 200 or even a 250.

You won't feel quite as much like a gorilla in a clown car too. You're a big man, time to set your sights a bit higher than 110/125s maybe!!

i used to have a '85 honda 200x i weight just under 300 lbs i had no problem with it having all the power i wanted or needed. i now have a '85 honda 110 that was my uncles, since he passed away i'm looking for as many replacement parts like metal gas tanks fenders seat and so on to restore it as a memorial for my uncle, i'm too heavy to ride it, it had trouble moving when i weighed 145 even in low lol.

I have owned both of these machines at the same time, its not much difference, but you can feel the tiniest difference in power with the 125m over the 110.
Which is why i sold the 110 and keep the 125's.
