What's the difference between the atc 200s 200es and 200m big red trikes???

Title says it all. I'm looking to trade my 1986 Kawasaki Kdx200 for a 1984 Atc200[?] I don't know if it's an S , ES , or M. I don't really know the differences so i can't tell. And i'd prefer not to buy something unless i know what parts i can and cannot buy. Can someone please tell me the differences in those modesl? S ES M thank you.

The 200's are pretty similar to each other. Thier frames vary a little, cosmedic parts and thier drive trains.
The engines are pretty much the same.
The 200es is a shaft drive, where the 200,e,s,m are chain.

So if you are wanting something that you wont be missing parts for and parts are relatively cheap, go for it.

200s is smaller with 22x11x8 tires.
Others are bigger with 25x12x9 tires.

I'm not a hard tail expert but aren't the es and m versions electric start as well?

It will be pretty easy to narrow down what it is based on this:

- If it's a shaft drive, then it's an ES.
- If it's a chain drive with electric start, then it's an M.
- If it's a chain drive with pull start, then it's an S.

I've never owned a shaft driven off road vehicle, is this better or worse than chain driven? cheaper to fix? easier to deal with?

It's not cheaper to fix, but if you are half awake with your maintenance and change the rear end oil periodically, a shaft drive should virtually never wear out so long as you aren't abusing your machine in an extreme way. Chains have to be kept in adjustment and require replacement periodically.

Like said before, if it has reverse and hi/lo range, it is a Big Red. The first Big Red's (200e) were chain drive and the years were '82 and '83. In '84 the Big Red got shaft drive and the model designation changed to 200ES. '84 was the only year of the 200es. So if you have a 200cc Big Red and it's shaft drive you know it's an '84.

Like said before, there are fewer differences between the 200s and 200m. Basically the same machine beside rear tire size and the M is electric start.

200M has the two piece rear fender like the "E" & ES Big Reds. They are hard to find replacements for.

200, 200s and 200m are not big reds. 200e and 200es are.

I'm not sure of differences between 200 and 200s. I think 200 is hard front, and 200s is soft? Both hard tails. 200m is a 200s with electric start. All chain.

200e is chain, hard tail, soft front, hi/lo, electric start. 200es is shaft, hard tail, soft front, electric start, hi/lo, reverse.

I've tried to straighten the, out myself but get lost in all the info and specs.

I am liking it - looks like it is all there. How does it run??? If you replace some of the minor cosmetic items - it would be a clean looking unit. Now, get out there and enjoy it.

Looks like a 84 200es with the wrong rear fenders . Rear fenders look like they might be from a regular 200 . Good start to a good machine ,,, have fun .

That is what I'm thinking too, Trike is a 200E or ES with the back fenders off a 200 or 200S?? How did they make that work? Looks good anyhow!

200s is smaller and more of a sport bike with one piece fenders . Regular 200's are left side / right side with a trunk . You can make the 2 piece fenders " work " on a 84 bigred if you drill new holes . They don't line up or fit like they should , but if you need rear fenders ,,, better than nothing .

Girr you seem happy to have it , just pointing out the rear fender " facts " Looks like a great machine . Clean it up , tweek it out . Believe me I have worse that I'm trying to bring back to life . Enjoy .
