    Trying to find the perfect sand/dirt tire for my 200x

    Im almost done with my 200x build and it has completly bald 400ex tires on it making it look bad.
    I ride mostly pure sand dunes but do run gravel roads, trails and go mudding a bit too.
    Any advice on a tire? ive been looking at kendas klaw since its reversable for sand but just noticed its 6-ply, that sounds heavy for a 200cc bike!!
    Im looking for good sliding and agressive enough to pack the x up banshee hill.
    thanks

    Get another set of 400EX, or 450 tires. They work great and easy to find new take-offs.

    Do they even make those any more? I had those on my 85 250es 20 years ago I loved them in the mud and woods terrain

    If you want to fly up Banshee hill.............. I would suggest swapping machines, not tires lol. A 200x does ok down in the flats and can be fun but I can't imagine trying to climb hills at Winchester on one..........

    Hello Hawaiirider;

    In my experience, there is NOTHING I know of that will do what you want. Not all sand is the same. That sand looks like it is super deep and super soft. It is one of the most difficult types of sand to get traction in.

    The best sliding tires are ones that have rows of open space from one side to another. This pattern is also good in the sand for forward acceleration because it acts like a small paddle tire. I seriously doubt that a small semi paddle type tire will get ya up there though.

    2 or 4 ply available in different hardnesses which is kinda cool.

    Some of the maxis tires are also good but still likely won’t get you up that hill.

    Have you considered a winch [not a wench]?

    PS - Did you determine why your bike only has spark at high rpm yet?

    OEM ohstus are where it's at. A very light tire (2 ply I think) and they were very soft and spongy (great for sand) but they grip great on dirt, not so much mud though (they dont clog though)
    The OEMs will only slide when worn down (thats the only way you'll find them now without finding some $$$$$$$ NOS ones)

    Hello Hawaiirider;

    Check this out. It is purportedly a 2 ply tire and might slide better than your wolly boogers..

    OEM OHTUS’s shown in stock in one of the worlds biggest stocking NOS parts suppliers but they likely won't get ya up that hill either, lol. .

    come ride with us, you wouldnt believe the x unless you see it in action, it will go ANYWHERE in windy bay! people get upset when they find out a 200cc bike will keep up w there new 450's but i agree at the same time a 250r does much better, it takes far less effort than the little x to go up a hill

    as far as the tires i think those mx tires look great probably go with those! those lumberjacks are cool too!

    and barnett468 yes, the stator was weak i ordered a new one and new flywheel, it read under 35 on the meter so that must have been the prob.

    anybody have any input on those kenda klaws?

    Not sure why everyone is recommending 22 inch tires but I can tell you from personal experience that 20 inch tires will far outperform 22s on a 200x. In every way.

    Kenda klaws are too heavy.

    You must weigh 95 pounds if a 200x can take you up the steep hills at Winchester. And keep up with 450s............. look kid, I wasn't born yesterday.

    Have you thought about running some Ohtsu Pro Wedge tires (called 4 snows now) they do pretty good with forward traction but the sidewalls are soft so turning isn't their strongest point.

    4 snows and Pro wedges will wear down really quickly unless you're on snow or sand (gravel would just about ruin them and they have a 19/32" thread depth), and they only make them in a 22". I have them (4SNOWS) on my shee for winter and they actually measure at 24" @ 3 psi. Pro wedges arent as bad, but they are still in that 22-23" range. Too much tire for a 200X imo.
    If you're looking 20" and under then some of the tires barnett recommended are great. Though all tires of that type (holeshots, razrs, and their various knock-offs) clog badly in mud.

    Funny, I was looking for some TT tires the other day and I saw those. 21" isn't to bad. I almost said something about those Chevrons in my last post but did not. Seems like a great tire.
