    Silver Lakes Sand Dunes

So I've been itching bad to hit some serious sand after seen pics of a friend at Sand Mountain in Nevada. From what I've read Silver lake is the best sand dune this side of the missippi.

Who's been and what do you think? Is it worth me making an 18 hour drive to hang out at this place for a week?

Been there many times, about a 4 hr drive for me. But in my opinion it wouldn't be worth an 18 hr drive to get there. It's fun but it gets old kinda quick. We usually go for 3 days but we go with a bunch of guys and take trucks and stuff also. Might as well keep on driving and go to Glamis!

It's not a week long type riding place, couple days at most with one of those days on the weekend when you can do a lot of watching and racing….BUT… there are some excellent trail systems only a short drive away or on the way. If it were me, I'd plan the week trip to ride some trails and then end up at the dunes for the weekend. Same trail pass required for both.

    I'd say it's a pretty awesome place...

I live about an hour away and make multiple trips up there every summer. By the nature of the wind coming off Like Michigan, it changes every year.

Take an offroad truck, park it at the beach, set up and little picnic area and ride all day, and then take a nice dip in the lake.

I've never been disappointed on a trip.

I got to SLSD a few times a year too. For a week vacation I would do the dunes and the local trails. Michigan has some kick ass 50" trails.

There are a ton of trails listed. Can you name a few of your favorites? I'm trying to plan out a whole trip as mentioned above. A day or two on the sand and a day or two in the dunes

michigan has some sweet trails, but you will be bored quick at silver lakes. We went by there on the trip home from one of Rogers (sandpupi's) rides one year and theres not alot to play on. Litterally like 4 major sand dune hills and its directional so you can only go one way and then loop back around and do it again. We timed our selves and rode the entire place in a loop and down along the lake in like 15 minutes. Not trashing the place, just not something worth an 18 hour drive for. Hell, theres ALOT of places you could go ride that are closer than that. Sand i am unsure about for out east but little sahara NV and little sahara OK are the spots to go if you can't swing the full ride out to GLAMIS. If your itching that bad, drive down next thursday and meet us in STL, My sister is pulling out of St Louis thursday night and has room for an extra couple people. Riding with her from MO to OK and back is 100$ per person for gas roundtrip and to haul you and your bike.

Tin cup is usually really good, very fast trail. Relatively wide and sweeping turns for the most part. Some good hill climbing and other really cool spots can be found if you are adventurous and stray from the trail from time to time. I love getting out there on the R. Little O and Big O are a couple miles away, little tighter but still pretty fast. Cedar creek by Muskegon is really tight and sharp corners. I get into trouble there because I am used to Tin Cup haha.
