Wont start on its own but will run if bump started..

any idea why? it's a 82 or 83 Kawasaki KLT 250, if bump started it will run and idle on it's own but for some reason it won't start with the starter? carb has been cleaned and i'm out of ideas why sucks cause this has no backup starter

Sounds like weak spark or low compression.
Install a new plug and see if that fixes it.

Does the starter turn over and it doesn't start or the starter doesn't work period?

Valves may be adjusted too tight.

you need a feeler guage from napa and if you dont know how grab a clymer manual or a hanes, its got to be done on a regular basis on any 4 stroke. i bet you loosen the up to correct setting she starts right up.

check the valves just for good measure also check the compression. low compression will cause the same symptom.

the valves are too tight, your not getting fuel, that or your compression is low if you have spark
