    Hundred Dollar Hardtail

I dont usually buy hardtails , I just like the X's. But when someone offers to bring a running 200s to your house for $100, what do you do?

Didn't come with anything above the frame, i.e. no tank or fenders, headlight, etc and the bars are twisted, but at least he filled the carb before he left so I could see it run. Idles at about ohhhh 3500rpm or so.

Could part it out, but i've got some 200s parts laying around so I'm going to have some fun throwing old parts on it and cleaning it up to try and make a profit on it as a rider. I figure for the hundred I have in it so far I'm right on budget.

It won't be factory restored, I already painted the ratty plastics I had months ago, and I'm gonna sell it when its done so if that's not your bag then off you go to a high budget and long labor hours thread in which the o.p. is gonna keep it.

The non- running 110 in the background rode along to my house with the 200s, and will not share the same fate.....refer to the classifieds for an explanation on that one

Progress should go quickly on this 200s, I'm hoping to have it ready in a couple days, maybe three. Or six.

Disassembly went pretty smooth other than the corroded exhaust slip joint, that took about 30 minutes to pick out of there without damaging it. The main jet was clogged with some green junk. At this point I remember the guy saying "carb probably just needs cleaned" and thought huh, yep, that's probably all it needed..... I silently simultaneously thanked him for his honesty, and his generosity.

I'll add some parts pics sometime. Got the exhaust VHT'd , got a new kenda front max and some other stuff.

The 110 is begging me to keep its nuts in place. Either way its due for surgery, but i think it might get a facelift instead.

Hey, that's a good thing because it tells you:

    1. Unlike most Hondas, the stator and CDI box are both good.

    2.The engine is good.

    Here's my avatar.

Hi DohcBikes, I think you should fix the poor little 110 up so some lucky little boy or girls parents might by it for them for around a zillion dollars and 32 cents on Ebay like your last one. You could take some cool photos of it out in the desert sitting on one of those annoying blunt nosed lizards too.

Yesterday someone here asked why their engine was idling for just a while then shutting off. Here's why I had the answer on my mind.

In addition to the idle screw being buried and the main jet barely passing any fuel, the jet needle was wrapped in a copper wire to keep it from falling through the slide, with nothing to keep it from lifting in the slide. So the combination of the high idle, clogged main, and the jet needle being on the eqivelent of about clip position 9, i can see it wasn't running so well.

Used a cheap universal headlight that I bought a few of last year for ten bucks. Got the other frontend on, it was already painted black. Stole the bars from the 110, wired it up, got the exhaust on. Some pics were taken in the dark, sorry.

And then here's a little preview of the bodywork i had left over from another rebuild. The rears are cut, gouged and crackly, they were pink through and through before i painted them. Gonna do some changes to the color, the white stripe will turn black. Oh ya I also covered the seat yesterday.

Gotta find some cheap used rear tires today, going to mount em on 200x wheels and paint the front wheel silver again to "match".

Just got it running again after fighting it all morning. Since I saw it run, and it was in such a bad state of tune before I touched it, I just figured it would pop off and I could tune it from there.

    No.

Caught a piece of junk on the seat, had to take the carb apart, flooded the cylinder, plug had about half the gap it needed and it was the wrong heat range. Spitting gas back out the carb. Checked the valves, had to back each adjuster off at least a full turn before there was any clearance. I have no idea how he got it to fire in front of me without even a gas line hooked to it. I'm thinking of seeing if he needs a job, he must have "the touch".

Reassembled the carb, got it fired, had a major exhaust leak and no power at all. Fixed the exhaust leak, set the valve lash, realized that I was working the choke backwards (yep, it happens to the worst of us), and

    BOOOYAHHHHH....... BEER TIME BABY.

Well I got tired of fooling around with this thing and posted it today for $450 so I can go back to working on trikes with rear shocks!

Been ripping it up and down the block and shooting some city boy roost across my driveway. My "front yard" is destroyed.

Never did paint the front wheel or find used rears because I don't think it'll be worth the $ or the labor. The only front fenders i had were too tore up to look good. Gotta leave something for the next guy to do... That's my excuse this time anyway

Here's the pics from the ad. Got impatient and snapped the pics before I hooked up the front brake lever so its missing.

Could part it for more who cares, let someone go thrash it. Figure since its a fine runner i should get my asking price pretty quickly. Guess we'll see!!

    Hey thanks guys!!

Youre right 450 was a deal......Had a guy text me about 6.a.m. asking if the ATC was still for sale, as he would like to purchase it for his 14 year old son.

They showed up, the kids face was worth every minute of fooling around and every extra dollar I could have gotten parting this out. He tried to hand me his money before I even started it for him lol....

I hopped on the beast and did a couple hot laps around the yard, threw some roost across the driveway and nearly flipped it for him, then reminded him and dad to always wear a helmet and keep the feet on the pegs. I also told him of JasonB's recent accident and strongly recommended riding boots as well.

Dad said they live right down by a river bottom, I couldn't be happier about the home this trike went to.

    On to the next one!

Yep great to see the youngsters getting the 3 wheel bug!

Sold the parts 110 today for $180, the guy said he was gonna make it a rider again to take camping.

I made a few hundred bucks on the deal and hopefully kept these two trikes from being tore apart or scrapped
