1985/86 ATC 310 Build..... it was pretty much a gift!!!

    Alright everyone,
In my last posting I listed all my pictures and the story, but to give everyone the quick low down and dirty... I picked up these bikes and parts and I am going to be doing a restore on the yellow bike. The owner was ATC250RLEN.... not sure if you have seen him on the boards here but if you Google his tag he has a website on his projects etc that he has had in the past. He has a lot of good tips on restoring parts etc, and has a wealth of knowledge.... He really took care of me and I truly appreciate him for that. I will post the pictures of all the parts again, and then a picture of the Yellow bike when he had restored it. He put inverted forks on it (which he was mentioned for along time ago on here) but they did not come on the bike.
My problem is that I am trying to figure out what I am going to do for the color scheme.... any ideas out there would be greatly appreciated.... the more I look at they way he had it, the more I like it..... I am just undecided. I will post pictures and keep everyone as the build progresses.

    All the parts.....

HOOOLLLY CRAP! Long story short, my family were late bloomers for obtaining a computer/internet in the house and I can remember being 17 years old, surfing the net for ATC 250R pictures, finding Len's and watching the progress on that R. It was my first true love for 3rd gen's and I still have all the pictures printed and in a folder somewhere. I cannot believe you scored that bike....uh, why is it in pieces, did he ride the goodie out of it after restore? That is a truly beautiful color scheme. If it were me, I would bring it back to its former glory, inverts included.

Here is a pic of Len on the finished product.

    Yeah Yaegerb,
I have all of his photos too.... He also included some photos of what he was planning on doing with this bike..... Solid black and chrome to the hilt..... I like the black, but fell that soon as it get dirty it really takes away from the appearance and the black shows scratches..... I really like his color scheme.... Do you know where I can get a good set of inverts?

The bike was in pieces because he was tearing it down to restore it again.... the long story short is he sold this bike like 3-5 times and it kept coming back to him.... he won't get it back from me... This is the bike I will ride til' I cannot ride anymore!!!

Yes I do. Contact Jason Hall (here on the boards). I plan on having him set me up some inverts for my R in the distant future. His invert work is very good.

I'm not sure that I want to let anything go just yet..... someone offered me $175 for the Short track tank already, but basically as you can see I have enough parts to basically make 2 bikes...... it's just do I really want to do that... and if so what parts do I want to use..... he said this motor is super special and asked that I only bring it back to him if anything needs to be done to it, and that he would do it..... he said he has had special work that no one know about inside? Not really sure what all that could be... but if he laid a Paul Turner to the way side to run this top end then it must be something special.... he said it has Great compression and is ready to be put in an ridden.... can't wait!

Contacting places tomorrow for powder coating.... or is there anyone on here that does it for members at a really good deal? Remember the military doesn't get paid that well!!!

    Love it!!!

Man i hope some of the new school guys realize how damn cool this is. Doesnt matter whats done in there, im betting he just would rather not give up his secrets. Having grown up around old school drag racers and dirt trackers has made me respect this quality to the nth degree.

Awesome awesome awesome all the way around on this thread!!!!

I Love this entire story. Except the scumbags at the beginning stealing your stuff... Yaeger, that is a cool story. Love it. DOHC, Back in the day. There was a guy in NY I think.. Building 1980-81 Arctic cat El tigre 6000 engines. He sealed them. You payed a kings ransom up front for his racing engine. And won every race you entered more less lol. And rebuilds were FREE... Yes,,FREE.. IF,,The seal was broken. He wouldn't touch it ever again. True story I don't know of anyone opening one up. But I'm sure someone probably did. Stubbie, I want to contribute something to this build. When the need arises please lmk, No big deal. But I would love to help. I have had bikes stolen and KNOW 1st hand the pain these low life maggot sucking, good for nothing sewer swimming scumbags cause. I can't imagine having it happen the way it did to You and your family. Parts or bucks. Just lmk. But it would be my privilege to help out. I had a set of inverts but just gave them away.... You missed them by less than 2 weeks lol.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

I am turning my PM's Off,my Email is billsracing@hotmail.com,put 3WW in the subject. Thanx!

Seems to depend where you look. I had quotes of 250-350 depending if its blasted or not, then I found another local guy who would do my fork tubes, front hub, frame, and motor mounts for 325, nothing pre-blasted and I was very excited to find someone that cheap.

    Blasted, expect around 200-250. Not pre-blasted 250-300
