Damn nice build. I love digging for nos stuff, I guess it's the thrill of the hunt. Congrats on building a sick trike.

Who did the fuel tank on this? Is it painted or powder coated?

    The thing looks amazing!

The fuel tank was done by First Class Auto Body in Scottsdale AZ. It is painted with base/clear.

I think everyone there liked my idea of using a 2" test plug from Ace Hardware to plug the filler hole. It has a small rubber lip on the end that covers the inner tank lip and the two notches where the cap goes in perfectly, while still leaving the edge exposed to blast and paint it. I like how you can tighten it down. The inside stayed perfect throughout the entire process. For the petcock opening, I used a brass plumbing cap from Lowes. (I know Mr Clean was looking for an easier way to plug the openings on the tanks he is painting).

    The 200X is complete!

I tried to make this build as complete and new as possible. Thousands have gone into it. My goal was to make it look like it belongs on a showroom floor somewhere in 1986/87. I don't have a time machine, so this is the next best thing. I wish I could have found 87 rear wheels in good enough shape to restore, but these NOS 86 350x wheels look mint and will have to suffice until I find a better set of date coded Enkei's. The machine is bolt for bolt, OEM original Honda parts.

I also have collected all the Hondaline accessories available for the 87 200X with the exception of the red body cover. I must have passed up a dozen of those a few years ago thinking they were a lot at 300.00.

    Speedometer
    Speedometer Gear box kit
    Fender Brace
    Over Fender
    Rubber foot peg covers
Headlight guard (both red and chrome)
Tachometer (the only one not new in the box but it is a very nice example)

Also, I have all the manuals, brochures and setup instructions for this ATC. I have recreated the original laminated hang-tag and key tag. I work at a commercial print shop so there are certain perks.

    Special thanks to:
Western Honda - Scottsdale, AZ. One of the few independently owned Honda shops in Arizona. Truly a great shop! All of the parts that are or were available from Honda since 2009 are from Western.

Unique Powder Coating - Tempe, AZ. Marco and Mark are great guys to work with and will go way out of their way to make you happy. The Mirror Red powder is nearly an exact match to the OEM Honda passion red. Engine case covers are 60-percent gloss and match the Honda semi-gloss black nicely.

First Class Auto Body - Scottsdale, AZ. I was referred to these guys by Tri-City Transmisson. The fuel tank they painted came out super-nice!

Vintage Motorsports - Mike from VMS refinished the rear axle and it is better than original. Mike also supplied the NOS rear wheels for this build. (I sure hope this build is as good as one of Mike's as he is an inspiration to all of us and more importantly, a great guy!

Off-Road Vintage - (petesatc) Front and rear fender OEM decals and a few other misc parts over the years.

My good friend Matt and fellow gear-head who always helps me with my builds and also happens to be a great welder!

Harlan Lysne - provided the rear fender "ATC" decals ,frame ID and swing arm emissions decal. (the only non-OEM decals besides the tire pressure label from honda200x1987)

Various members on 3WW who have either provided me with parts or advice on this build as well as my others.

    Ebay - many late-night Buy It Now's

    Craigslist

My credit card... which is about to melt!

    Countries I got parts from:
    USA
    Canada
    England
    Wales
    New Zealand
    Australia
    Japan

In summary, this thing is simply breathtaking to look at. The pictures are nice but they just don't capture it. A true flashback to an era when I was just a teenager. I can't stop staring at it.

If anyone wants hi-res pics of a certain part, let me know and I will get them for you.

I can't remember if I ever went down to the Honda dealer to check out the '87 200X's, but now, after looking at your pics, I feel like I did just that.

Awesome job on the restore. A true labor of love.

looks awesome, i worked for a honda dealership from '82 til late '86 and got to see all models on the showroom floor when i wasn't too busy, matter of fact we sold all four major jap brands by that time, i really miss those days, it's great to see some excellent builds as you did, thanks for sharing.................
