Im still collecting up a few parts and im about ready to tear this sx down to a bare frame. I picked up a set of 350x forks/triples with a hub that I plan on using on this 250sx. I just have to make a steering stop before deciding on what color to powder coat the frame and swingarm and then send it off. Im thinking a light blue to match the stripes on the 86 250sx tank decals. It should go well with the white plastic and a blue seat cover. I have big plans for the trx300 engine thats going into this thing. But that is my little secret

So after a little number crunching and parts research I've given myself a loose $2,000 budget for this. That's an entire engine rebuild, new maier plastics front and rear, a clarke tank, seat cover and a few odds and ends. I know I will probably have more in it then that when I'm done and could've bought a running sx for half that or a real nice 350x for my budget price but I don't have the money to drop 2K all at once. Im just buying parts as i get the money and Im in no hurry to get it done. This is definitely going to take longer then trikefest 2015 but it's gonna be what I want and how I want it

So this build got set on the back burner after the BBK I wanted to purchase was discontinued and other projects came up (Heavy Betty, my 70 project, my wife's 125 catching fire) Fast forward 4 years later and I've picked up a few more parts like a white light guard, a cobra exhaust system and some 300ex rear wheels. I had started another thread but remembered that I had already made this one so I decided to delete the other one and continue on this one. It's crazy how life goes and you put a project aside hoping to get time but get sidetracked on 20 other things lol. Hope the next few months will treat this project better than it has the last 4 years. This is 1 of about 5 projects that I've been collecting parts for and I'm at the point where I have most of all of things I need to build it the way I want.

Is the 300 engine a direct swap? No big bores anymore?

The 300 will bolt right in after you swap the right angle drive output. The 300 is about 3/4 to far out to line up with the driveshaft tube. Also you have to either modify the harness to work with the 300 stator or use a 300 harness. Using the 300 harness, dash and cdi will not you the warning lights for the oil temp and such.

As for the big bores High lifter isn't making them anymore. I'm sure if I did some digging on the internet I could put my own setup together but with the other projects I have going on I don't have the extra money to spend for it to be hit and miss if I get it wrong.

Cool build. Wonder how much more power the 300 makes?

A 300 is said to make in the 16-18 range stock give or take.

So almost another year later and this build is still on the back burner but I still show it some love by looking out for parts for it. Lately I've come across an NOS Bassani exhaust and some air adjusters and balance hoses that I'm going to use along with a set of 200x forks and triples on this build. I think other than new plastics, tires and bearings the only thing I'm waiting for is to get home from this deployment to work on it. I can't wait to get this thing together and blast it around in the woods.

I'm planning on running 18's on this when finally finished. I have a plan on fixing the gearing issue of running the smaller tire once I get home. I have the parts I just have to verify that they will work. It's all looking very promising though and I should keep a similar top speed with the fix.

On your fork adjusters (caps) I’m 99% sure the 83/85 fork caps have different threads than the 86/87 forks caps. You may want to check that out. You can always use the earlier forks there only 1/2” shorter.
I really like the tank shrouds.......
    Be safe on your travels.

Edit, nevermind I was thinking 200x not 250sx. My bad
