    pull start help

I have attempted to reinstall the internal components of a 85 200s pull start a couple times w no success. I bought a kit online that fits the machine and functions while assembled in my hand, once I install the recoil starter onto the motor and pull it a time or two the mechanism comes apart. I have reviewed the manual yet have failed. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I took my 200 pull starter apart and cleaned it up and put it all back together with now issues....I had never seen one before let alone rebuild one. One thing I did do was watch " D-Ray's " youtube video on rebuilding a pull starter. Hope you find the problem

Photos of what it looks like might be of help. Never rebuilt one, but there should be some sort of a bolt that holds the assembly together.

I just took a quick peek at a 125m pull starter, and it has a huge washer with a nut that holds the assembly in the cover, I would start there as that should stop it from falling apart.

im willing to bet that the pulley is worn out. the area where the dog ears lay . inspect that area closely. i had one that that had hairline fractures everywhere. also the point where the dog ears are to stop will smash away over time and allow them to fall out. grab a welder and a grinder and add some metal to that point and grind your welds smooth . good luck.
