    Checking in from Pennsylvania

Hey, whats up everyone? I just bought my first atv on friday, a 85 honda atc200x. It is basically a roller, and I use that term loosely lol. I have a 250r 2 stroke engine that I am trying to shoehorn into this thing. This isn't my first project and I realize that the engine won't just "drop in" lol so hold the newb flaming lol. I also own a 70-71ish honda qa50 and a 78 honda cb550k. I have to get headed to work but I'll try and post some pictures of the trike later on tonight. Thanks

Which county you live in? I'm in Northumberland and there are quite a few of us on here. Also if you have Facebook look for a group called trupa. It's all trike riders from pa that get together for events and rides.

Just get it together by next spring and you can join us for some of the bigger meet ups.

Sounds like a cool project. Just keep the 200x's suspension limits in mind. You'll quickly have more power than it was designed for.

Doesn't works still make custom shocks? I think that's a easy solution. Or figure out a modern replacement or fab one to fit. As for the front, i don't know how adjustable they are. Maybe run heavier springs and put more air in them. Or swap them out for something else, or go the expensive route of inverts.

    Just remember to gusset accordingly.

I travel back and forth between centre and york county. I like how the shocks have air ports in them. Does the rear shock have a pump on it? It looks like it to me but it seems to be stuck and I havent taken much time to try and loosen it up. Are there any brake upgrades for my trike? It seems that the 300ex has the same front master cylinder as mine and the rear looks the same but idk if it is or not. A guy down the street from me is parting out a 2001 300ex and I want to grab the front master at least bc mine is damaged. Caliper and rotor upgrades that bolt up? sorry, I'm new to atv's Here are some pics

Here you can see how close the rear engine mount is from lining up with the swing arm mount. The upper frame mount is hitting on the kickstart shaft so that'll need trimmed up to get the engine lined up. I'm also looking for a different kickstarter, maybe steel, thats not all think around the shaft and is angled to swing away from the frame some. The one on the engine now is straight up off the shaft almost and doesnt angle away from the frame at all. I'm taking the master cylinder mount off the frame for clearance to be re-used to mount the master cylinder on the frame rail behind.

The sprocket is lined up pretty good.

I'm hoping once the engine is in the swing arm mount that I'm only going to have to make room for the exhaust and not the case on the front of the frame.

Here is basically how I want to do the rear brakes. I can't mount the pedal to the case like what is stock on the 200x so I'm going to use the rear linkage pivot instead. The pedal in the pic is from a 2001 300ex and almost might have worked right out of the box except the pivot shaft diameter is smaller than the 200x and it won't fit. I almost bet a honda quad from the 80's would have the right shape and pivot diameter but I'm not sure. I'm also moving the reservoir a little lower than its sitting in the pic.

Here is how I'm moving my swing arm back. I didn't draw in any webbing between the frame pieces but u get the idea. Still going to use the factory tensioners, just flipped. The factory swing arm frame mounts are basically 3 pieces welded on top of each other.

Well I actually had the engine inside the frame over the weekend but nothing permanent. I made some patterns and rethought how I want to relocate my swingarm. I need to go get some metal for the fab work. Didn't get any pics of the progress because it's mostly progress on my ideas lol. My sis did take a candid action shot of me though.

Still making progress, just no pictures to show for it. I have the engine mounts fabbed up and have accumulated most of the parts I need. The next step is to drop the frame off to have the swingarm bolt slots elongated further. I could do that myself but I want it to look nice and be straight. I have an idea or 2 for the chain slack adjusters but haven't decided on anything yet. The biggest pain in my ass right now is the kick start clearance. I just picked up a 84 200S on sunday that I'm going to try and bring back to life too.

dang, wish I could post in the other threads already. Is there a for sale section here where members buy and sell to each other i.e. classifieds? I found the ebay/ CL section and the other parts shop but nothing that really looked like a classifieds section. All the other forums I post in have them.

You get access to the classified section after 10 posts and a 2 month waiting period.
