    250es speedo gearbox, plastic internals?

So after 10 years of looking I finally got my hands on a speedo, cable and gearbox to suit my 250es over here in Australia. It's off an old farm bike but appears to be in ok condition (still in the post on its way). I had to convince the guy and offer him a heap of money to sell the stuff on its own as I couldn't afford to do the 26 hour round trip to pickup the wreck. Anyway, he told me he couldn't get the axle out, very typical for this machine I know! He told me he just cut the axle either side of the speedo gearbox. So looks like I'm in for some work to get it out now to put on my bike. My question is, are there any plastic internals in the gearboxes that I should look out for when applying some heat, or is it all aluminium and metal gearing? Anyone else had this same problem? I am so chuffed that I finally found a genuine ATC one with km/h. 10 years in the making. Thanks blokes

Well you are gonna cook any grease out and melt a o-ring or two heating it. I would recommend pressing it out.

Yes, like the pictures show they can be taken apart + "serviced". Really I have found just forcing grease into the little set screw hole area (down towards bottom of gear drive assemebly ) is all that is really needed.
If the speedo drive turns over as it should no need for full disassembly.
If it "skips" a cog the cast iron inside gear is missing a tooth and no sence it taking it apart IMO since it is scrap.

Well scrap may not be the correct word to use. Perhaps unusable may be better verbiage.
I should review making just that one beveled gear. The one that rust off teeth,,,,,

Thanks for the replies. Well just see what I'm in for when it arrives. Just noticed that my hub does not have the little tab that spins the gearbox. Bummer!

No idea mate, I reckon it may just be the speedo head to be honest.

Yes, the drive gear is just the drive gear,,,, it don't care if it is turning a KPH or miles per hour head.
