So I'm about to have my mono shock polished and I realized that the rubber bottom out bumper is gone. Found one on eBay but doesn't look like a ez job. Does the shock need to be completely disassembled to install a new one?

Well you could unscrew the clevis from the shock shaft with the correct tools but it is NOT the correct way to do it and you will have issues. (gas charged, oil, etc.)
Have it rebuilt.
