This issue with needle seats going bad and leaking and setting float height is nothing new to me and many others that have owned Mikuni carbs. Do yourself a favor and buy a Keihin PWK 36mm or 38mm.

Usually the 1 tang you bend in the middle to set float height is nearly flat and parallel to the metal around it.
Dont bend the 2 tangs on the sides. Flat and parallel to the carb float bowl gasket area/carb body. Usually. Have fun geting gas everywhere and breathing the fumes.

It doesnt take much adjustment for it to have no gas or too much gas.
The height is measured from bottom of the bowl with the bowl on and since the bowl is not clear you cant measure it unless you tap the bowl drain bolt and put a nozzle and gas line on there which you can bend up so the gas fills the line and you can measure the height in the line. I have seen this mod and it was slick but hardly anyone does that.

Usually the problem is always the float needle valve and not float height set from a tang/tangs that are not bent or messed with. I often gave up and just lived with the gas drip on multiple mukunis and shut the gas off when not riding.

Yeah, this is no drip. It pours. I didnt know it was the fuel level as the height. I need to check and see if we have this tool at work i guess. Its not dripping now. But it scares me to have it set to low and run lean. 2 strokes are so forgiveing on a lean condition

Often I would put Mikuni bowl a n and it would pour gas cause of stuck floats. I would end hitting the carb with a screw driver handle or something out of frustration to dislodge the the floats. Hitting a Mikuni carb with a or something was a common routine for me because I hated them and they always leaked gas. Round slide, flat slide, didnt matter same story over and over.

I much prefer keihn's way or the float is part of the arm that turns off the fuel

If you are looking for a used one try ebay and search for stock carbs off like KTM dirtbikes. They came with Keihin and sometimes you can find good deals.

Try tapping the bowl just after you turn the gas on. Mine would flood sometimes after the gas was drained and the floats would stick when gas filled the dry bowl.

4 different carbs did that, lots of snowmobiles have Miks and I dont see how they dont catch fire,.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/KEIHIN-PWK-3...c46207&vxp=mtr

A 36mm Keihin was shown to flow just as much gas as the 38mm and the 36 seems to always be less popular than 38mm or 39. And thus the 36s cost less.

    Heck a 34mm works on a 250 motor.

I considered buying 36mm pair that people take off banshees and sell one. Often people ask around $350. Sell one for $150 and keep the other. A couple on craigs by me not to long ago.
