    replacment 200x shock

has anyone found a replacement 200x shock? through my searching i have found a few sport bike shocks with very close eye to eye dimensions and have similar mounting ends. going to be trying a gsxr 600 shock next week that about 1/4 higher than the 200x shock.

Let us know how it works. It may be sprung too stiffly. The bike's designed to carry a passenger.

The compression & rebound damping will be stiff & harsh as well and it will overheat, it's not build for off road use.

If you try check the shocks shaft travel too and compare to the 200X.

I don't know how much this will help but my 86 "x" had a bad splines on the axle. I scored a 300ex swinger and modded it to fit the "x". I know my stock shock fits fine on the EX swinger so maybe the 300ex shock will fit on the "x" just as well.

If you have the money I would suggest a Works shock; About 800$....

But match that with inverts and your golden!!

what did you have to do for the 300ex swingarm? Seams like a very reasonable thing for us 86/87 200x owners with rare/expensive axles, expensive carriers and discontinued axle hardware, also very hard to find swingarms. You can easily mod a 85-89 250r brake on it or put a 450r setup right on it. I have a 86-89 250r brake on mine, 83-84 250r extended axle, Rad carrier, 83-84 250r brake hub w/ brake disc cut down 20mm(did at home with grinder, not perfect, but close enough) and a set of spacer to move out the caliper(83-84r brake discs sit further off than 86/87 200x or 85-89 250r). I did have to heat up the 85-89 250r caliper plate to put a bend in it.

On my current build I am using an '84 250r shock with '84 200x swinger and mounts. The only real mod on the shock is the top mount will be cut about 3/8 of an inch to fit into the '86 200x frame. It all looks like it will mount up easily at this point.

On my 1983 200x, I found a low cost replacement rear shock. I trail ride in the desert and it has worked well for almost a year. The shock came from a 2002 Suzuki GSF1200S, bandit. I had it left over because I replaced the bandits shock with a hybusa shock.Click image for larger version.

i have looked into the bandit shocks but they are more expensive than the gsxr shock. a gsxr shock with resi goes for about 40 bucks shipped. I had a sv650 shock laying around so i decided to try it out. all of the mounting points fit perfect but once installed it was to soft. it was also about an inch longer eye to eye so it sat up higher. so that option is out the window. i looked at spring rates for the gsxr and it seems like it will be ok. as for the bike being made for a passenger, these are street legal race bikes with rear pegs added for marketing. i have an r6 and everything about a passenger on these bikes suck.

be sure to check eye to eye measurements before hand and mounting ends. i think the year gsxr shock that is a close eye to eye is 07.

because of the angle the shock will be at i believe the resi will fit under the down tube. it will be mounted almost exactly like that photo is taken. the gsxr shock is 12.48 inches eye to eye the stock 200x shock is 12.12 inches. how big of a difference that 3/8 of an inch will make i dont know. but for 35-40 bucks it seems like its worth a shot.

    - alot cheaper

even with the used 200x shock though its a gamble. its still a 30 year old shock and is probably just as bad as the ones we have. same goes for the 84 250r shock option.
