Some parts made it back from the powder shop. I forget the color but I like the way it looks. Some more parts got dropped off today & some are getting plated.

My rear axles I have were c/rusty & painted up thick. I'm working on getting them pulled apart now. One hub was heavily rusted so I soaked it in vinager for 24hrs. It cleaned up good then I soaked it in marvelous mystery oil, it came apart real easy. The is hub is still stuck, it's been soaking in oil for a while, im keeping pressure on it in my press.

The Tecates may get completed a little later than I would like. Mainly because I have started work on my newly acquired 74 Barracuda.

If I was to name it, I'd call it "supersilver", because it looks super. Nice work! Keep it comin'.

Yeah I know. I saw it written on the tag attached to your frame in pic #1 of post #34. It was almost like I was psychic or something!

I finally got my rusty rear axles taken apart! The wheel hub & nut were rusted very badly, I wish I had a before pic. I soaked it in vinager for 2 days cleaning it after 24hrs. Used a wire brush & paper towels to get the grime off and kept soaking them.

I also soaked a bunch of springs washers & nuts & bolts too. These items can now be sent to the metal finisher for plating. I visited a few metal finishers locally- they did not want to help me out. There excuse was in the past customers were unhappy with the results & it would take too much time to clean the threads....etc... Etc...

I contacted FlyingW on the boards here & he's going to help me get my parts replated!

    No they are not.
If you take the entire system they can be swapped however.
You'll need the shock and the link system to make the swap.

I had a metal finisher do these parts - cost me $400.00! They turned out prett good. I wanted to plate the foot pegs because powder coat on my other pegs get worn off pretty fast. It looks I like the shop lost one of my seat u bolt fastners... I'll call them in the morning. That is an 85 Tecate grab bar, I tried my 85 6 pack rack & it does not work with the fenders- just does not look good at all.

They would finish all my bolts, washers & springs for $2,000.00!

Those plated parts look excellent too. Is that a silver tint zinc plating ? Looks perfect! $2,000.00 to all hardware and a few parts? Never dreamed of that high of a cost.

When they say clean the parts, are they talking some kind of chemical cleaning after the wire wheel or tumbler media cleaning? .....confused.
I think the silver was the right choice from the yellow I have seen in photos here. Sweet.

If you are telling me the pic you posted is what you had plated for $400 we really need to talk, that's horrible man, I live in downtown chicago, where prices are high, I had every nut and bolt off of an 86 Tecate plated for $200 plus the front and rear brake rotor, chain hub, rear brake hub, axle, all axle hardware. plus rear rim hubs, front axle god knows what else...
