    1985 250r bogging problem

    I took the bike out to Glamis after just cleaning and rebuilding the carb, it started just fine and idled great but when I put it in gear and tried to take off it started bogging out like it wanted to turn off, once it got moving she went through the gears smooth but every time I stopped and tried to take off I almost had to go wide open on the throttle to keep it from bogging out any idea what could be causing this?

    What modifications have been done to the motor?
    Is the carb stock or aftermarket?
    What size jets do you have?

    The motor is bone stock other than A twist throttle, the fuel is 20:1 castor oil and gas mix, the carb is a khien it has all the stock air box connections as well, I don't know what the jet sizes are I just stuck the same ones back in.

    I would crack open stock carb and check your jet sizes. Stock are the following: (slow: 50 / Main: 142) and airscrew should be between 1-2 turns out. It sounds like a VERY rich condition. I am wondering if your slow is too big or your airscrew is improperly adjusted.

    Also, 20:1 with bean oil is pretty rich. When I run castor 927, I always mix at 36:1 due to its excellent film strength.

    How old is the fuel in the tank? You might have some water in it.
    It sucks to get old

    The fuel is 2 days old, is that 1-2 turns from when it's been screwed all the way in? what jet sizes should I be running in the dunes (Glamis)?

    Don't know about glamis what's the elevation and temp there? And yes, that's two turns out from fully seated.

    Elevation is 335ft with an average temp of 65 to 85 degrees.

    This should get you in the ballpark for glamis.
    Slow jet: 52, but you could probably get away with a 50
    Main: 142
    Needle Clip: 2nd from top
    Air screw: 2 turns out

    Try a regular petroleum oil at 32 or 40:1. The 20:1 castor is just too rich. I've never been a fan of castor unless it was a high rpm race machine. I ran valvoline 2cycle for 15 years on a basically stock 250r at 32:1 and never had one issue. It had the same spark plug in it for years.
