    1986 Honda 125M

I have the opportunity to get ahold of a 1986 125m for a reasonable price.. plastic looks good and so does the tank. Its missing the pull starter, chain, chain cover, and shifter from what I can see in the pics. Also looks like the case cover has a small hole in it maybe from chain coming off. I know the 86/87 125's are hard to come by for parts, but are the drivetrain parts interchangeable in all years?

No - 86 and 87 only. I am pretty certain there was a fourtrax made during 86 - 87 that may share some of the components you are talking about - but trike for trike - these parts are very hard to find.

Yes the 87 88 trx 125 is the exact same engine so engine cases recoil stater and anything engine related should swap no problem. However The chain case could be hard to find however the chain case is not necessary for the bike to run. I would go and buy it if the plastics and tank are good because those are the hard parts to find.

I'll see what I can do, it's missing the trunk lid, but other than that, it looks complete.

Not sure on the shifter. Pretty sure I sold that already but I may have one off the 88 trx 125 I parted.

Well picked it up last night, I could turn it over by hand so that is a plus, hopefully it will be a runner again.

Looks like the chain busted a piece of the case cover off and made its way into the stator. I took the cover off to investigate and it seems someone else attempted to fix before. The reverse/neutral switch is missing, the stator has the wires exposed and tore on the pickup winding. Someone must have tried to pull the flywheel or did and put back on, but the threads are all boogered up on it. The flywheel doesn't seem like its beat up though, it has rusted on the outside of it due to it sitting out for years w/ a hole in the cover. I sanded the magnet on the flywheel and cleaned up the inside, and hoping just a new stator and it will run. Has anybody ran into a rusty flywheel like this and had troubles w/ it?

there are a few flywheels on ebay that are not to expensive if it were me I would probably go ahead and replace it. Let me tell you though once this bike is fixed and running they are a ball to ride.

I'm afraid I won't be able to get the flywheel off the way the threads look on it. I really don't want to invest too much into it at this point w/o knowing what kind of shape the motor is in, hopefully if I can find a stator, it will still work and I can fire it up. It's still missing a lot of odds and ends parts after it gets running.
