New Member Ready To Build My 200X

Hey guys new here. I picked up a all original 200x from the original owner a few months back. I've been saving up some money and I think it's time to finally start building it. I'm not sure if any of you have been following Mickey Dunlaps 200x build on his Facebook page but that is exactly how I want to build mine. All helps appreciated I'm still trying to figure out where to get some parts for it. Here's some pics let me know what you think

Welcome to the forum. The bike looks like a solid start for a build. Mickey is a member of this forum and I am sure he can help you out if you have any questions about his bike and he can also help you out with some of the parts you might need/want.

your will need a few items if you want to make a copy of his:

83-84 250r front fender bolts on
83-84 250r front forks bolts to all your 200x stuff since its all the same. you will need 83-84 250R triples...then take then stem out and bore the hole at the bottom for the 200x stem (its largers idk why) install and bolt up.

in the rear unless you have $600 for a new durablue axle which you can use off a 82 250R which will make the bike plus 6. If you do not have that kinda coin just buy offset 8" rims 3in 5 out and some 400ex hubs...I have a set and bolt them up. you will get to about 45" or so. Which is already +3 from the factory 200x. that may take you some getting use to anyway.

His rear tires are just some turf tramers so if you ride in any kind of mud they will cake up and become a slick. ITP make them with out some lugs now like everyone had to cut back in the 90's

send tammy at cosmic quads your seat and for a good price she will make it like his.

keep your rear fenders because I would not run fiberglass ones to trail ride. His swinger is I think plus 2, but its all aluminum so unless you know a guy who make reproduction swingers...wait I do (mike at www.hreatv.com) I would just cut yours in half and have a welder extend it 2"

keep your metal tank if its nice..if its rusted id sell it to some kid on CL cheap and buy a IMS short tract plastics one or a clark oversized one...in red because white plastics turns yellow in a few years.

Anything else you want to know?

Thank for the replay. The basic plan is a 10.25 piston with a xr200 carb a cam and stiffer valve springs. As for the suspension I saw your build using the 250r forks and the 83r rear shock. I was thinking of running that looks like a good setup and can probably be pieced together relatively cheap. New maier plastics and a fresh painted frame and tank. I'm an iron worker and certified welder so I got all that fab work for the extended swinger figured out. I do have a few questions I want to remove the lights on the bike what's all involved with that? Also what can I do for brakes. I want to remove the parking brake. Are there any different calipers off a different model bike I can use that might be a upgrade?

Use a 98 or newer CR80 or CR85 FRONT caliper on your original 200x REAR caliper bracket. Bolts on, bleeder is in right spot, same size piston and same brake pads, but no parking brake. If you buy the whole CR front brake setup you get a nice master cylinder with a shorty brake lever to replace your front master.

Then buy a complete KX80 REAR brake setup, use the caliper as a bolt on to your FRONT 200x bracket, and use the hose and master for the REAR of your 200x. There you go, completely upgraded brakes for about $60! You'll need to make a small bracket out of angle iron to mount the KX rear master to the 200X frame, but sounds like "you got that down."

however upgrading I only do if yours are junk. if they are not just rebuild yours. calipers use the same pads and seals so nothing really to upgrade over metal. however master cylinders is where its at. Throw them stock ones away and run a YZ85 up front. I do this and run ASV levers.

As far as that engine paint...Screw that. I went thru that whole process to find out it didn't stick worth crap. either let the motor show ware or powder coat it all up. if your going to run the bike then what is the point to make it all nice when in 5 mins your going to destroy all your hard work.

there needs to be a balance between what makes sense and who just wants to the claim to say I am the king of pretty on 3ww.
